Lenovo Grand Prix Preview

The 2026 Formula 1 Lenovo Grand Prix du Canada takes place at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, a fast and unforgiving 4.361 km (2.71-mile) semi-permanent street circuit located  on Notre-Dame Island.

The track is famous for its combination of long straights, heavy braking  zones, and tight chicanes, creating excellent overtaking opportunities while punishing even the smallest mistakes.

Drivers must aggressively attack curbs throughout the lap, especially through  the final chicane leading onto the frontstretch, where the legendary “Wall of Champions” waits  for anyone who gets too greedy on corner exit.

The Canadian Grand Prix is known for producing unpredictable races thanks to frequent safety cars, changing weather, and high-risk braking zones that lead to lockups and contact.

Cars with strong straight-line speed and efficient braking packages tend to perform well here, while drivers  who struggle with traction out of slow corners can quickly lose time.

Tire strategy also becomes  critical because teams must balance aggressive pace with tire wear during long green-flag runs.

The atmosphere in Montreal is always one of the best on the Formula 1 calendar, combining passionate fans, unpredictable racing, and a circuit that consistently delivers chaos and excitement.

Lenovo Grand Prix Winner Prediction: George Russell +185

Russell is in a great spot to get back to victory lane here. He already knows how to win at this track after taking the race last year, so the confidence and setup knowledge are clearly there.

The season-long form has also been extremely consistent:

• Win in the opening race

• 2nd place finish after that

• Two 4th-place finishes

He’s been right there every weekend, and it feels like Mercedes is due to finally put together a clean race from start to finish.

The biggest issue lately has been poor starts, but that’s something the team should eventually correct—especially with the raw pace they’ve shown.

Russell is driving one of the top two cars on the grid right now, and the fact his teammate has won the last three races tells you the speed is  absolutely there.

This track should suit Mercedes well too. The long straights play directly into their straight-line speed advantage, which should help both qualifying and race pace.

With proven track success, elite car speed, and strong recent consistency, Russell has a great  chance to get another win here.
