Penn St showed a ton of character last week as they showed up and played hard and won even after losing in a gut-wrenching fashion to Indiana the week before. With the season Penn St has had, they could have mailed it in last week, but they are playing hard for their interim HC. Nebraska has had 2 weeks to celebrate that win in the Rose Bowl, which was a big win for them and their new QB, TJ Lateef. UCLA really didn’t know what to expect in that game as it was his 1st start, and he played great, but facing the UCLA defense and the Penn St defense is the difference of night and day. Penn St also now has some game film to look at from that UCLA game. This is also the last home game for Penn St, and these players want to give their fans a win at home. As I said earlier, if this team was going to quit, it would have been last week on the road after the Indiana loss.

Florida State is coming off a nice win against Virginia Tech after a tough 4-game stretch and a loss to Clemson, but I think they match up well against this NC State team on both sides of the ball. Tommy Castellanos has a solid 12/6 TD/INT ratio, but he needs to complete more passes with only a 59% completion percentage. Tommy has a wealth of talented receivers if he can consistently get them the ball who are led by Duce Robinson and Michai Danzy. Duce is a bit banged up and dealing with nagging injuries but is listed as probable to play on Saturday against the Wolfpack. Gavin Sawchuk leads the running attack for the Seminoles with a 4.6 YPC average while Castellanos adds 404 yards on 107 carries, but Florida State has not leaned on the running game against tough run defenses and now faces an NC State defense that has given up 4.3 YPC and 140.5 yards per game on the ground.
NC State is coming off a let-down performance while being blown out by the Miami Hurricanes after they shocked Georgia Tech 2 weeks prior. CJ Bailey has played well at quarterback for the Wolfpack while completing 69.4% of his passes and a 19/9 TD/INT ratio but the offense struggles when they cannot get the running game going as shown with 7-points scored last week with just 23 yards rushing. Daylan “Hollywood” Smothers leads the rushing attack and was listed as probable for the matchup against Miami and ended up with 7 rushes for negative 2 yards. Getting Smothers back into the offense is going to be key on Saturday but they face a tough run defense again in the Seminoles who have held opponents to just 3.3 YPC on the season. Bailey has plenty of options at receiver, but the offense leans on the running game to setup play action passes and I am not sold that they are going to turn it around against Florida State.
