Let's start with the Rice offense. They want to run their option attack; they barely ever throw the ball. Well, guess what? The only thing UAB's defense does decently is stop the run! Rice is voluntarily running straight into the only strength UAB has.

And it gets better. UAB has already played Navy and Army this season. They have seen the option twice already! They know the assignment, they know the speed, they know the reads. That is a massive preparation advantage.

Now, flip it over. UAB loves to throw the ball, averaging over 40 pass attempts a game. And Rice's pass defense? It is a complete turnstile, giving up 7 yards per attempt to below-average quarterbacks. UAB is going to air it out and torch this secondary all game long.
