(903) Atlanta Braves at (904) St. Louis Cardinals
7:45pm EDT - Jun 24/2024

THE PLAY: St. Louis Cardinals +102 S Schwellenbach (RHP), L Lynn (RHP) Must Start

904 Atlanta at St Louis

Because of a rash of injuries to the Braves starting rotation, we are now seeing players with very little experience taking the hill. Tonight Spencer Schwellenbach makes his fifth start of the season for the Braves. With a 4.98 ERA and 1.20 WHIP, he’s actually looked pretty good compared to your typical rookie starter this season. His fastball velocity is in the 78th percentile, and his extension is in the 82nd percentile. That means his most frequent pitch gets to the plate faster than you would expect. But because of his decent start to the season, he has been installed as a road favorite in this one.

Lance Lynn started the season strong, after posting a 5.73 ERA a year ago. But he has started to regress to previous levels recently. In his last three starts he has permitted 12 combined earned runs in 13.1 innings of work. And those starts were against Colorado, Pittsburgh and Miami, three of the bottom dweller offenses in the league.

That said, Lynn has pitched with lesser stuff for at least three seasons now, and he’s still in a Major League rotation. He’s seen everything that can be seen since breaking into the majors in 2015. He’s 23-21 for his clubs the last three seasons by eating innings and keeping his teams in the game. Off three bad performances we look for positive regression from the veteran, while his counterpart is a bit overrated. Nice buy low spot on the Cardinals.

(923) Texas Rangers at (924) Milwaukee Brewers
8:10pm EDT - Jun 24/2024

THE PLAY: Milwaukee Brewers -154 M Lorenzen (RHP), F Peralta (RHP) Must Start

924 Texas at Milwaukee

Major excitement in Texas last night as Matt Scherzer returned to the hill for the first time this season, and looked good doing it. Now the Rangers have to travel to Milwaukee after sweeping the Royals. Michael Lorenzen starts for Texas, and his advanced stats don’t look very intimidating. Other than a solid exit velocity of 88 mph, his entire Savant chart shows he is a less than average MLB hurler. While his ERA sits at a solid 3.00, his xERA is a whopping 4.70. His barrel % the last three years have been 7.4, 8,0 and 6.8, all higher than any other season of his career. His SO percentage  is lower than league average by 1.6% while his BB% is 1.0 percent higher than league average. So despite his 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, he is majorly outperforming his metrics.

The Brewers counter with Freddy Peralta who enters play with a 4.06 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. Decent numbers, but a step down from what we would expect. When looking deeper we find he has a 3.75 xERA and a career best 86.6 average exit velocity. His K-BB% is right in line with previous years.

Milwaukee is a team that seems to be undervalued on a regular basis, very similar to the Championship Rangers team from a year ago. Big pitching advantage in this one for the host, as we look for the Brewers to win going away.

Bryan Leonard has been a Professional Handicapper since 1984 and has built his business on honesty and customer satisfaction, two traits not easily found in today's gambling climate. He has won numerous Number One documented finishes in Basketball, Baseball, and Football Handicapping in his 35+ years in the industry. In the past, Bryan has published The Roundball Report Basketball Newsletter and The Pigskin Report Football Newsletter. Bryan has also been a featured writer for Insider Football Magazine and Grantland on ESPN.com. He has also been featured in various newspapers and websites, including the Las Vegas Review Journal, where he provided weekly football recommendations.

Originally from the sports handicapping hotbed of Cleveland, Ohio, he relocated to Las Vegas in 1997 for better exposure and increased opportunities, including being able to take advantage of line shopping in Sin City. Since coming out West, Bryan has hosted his own daily radio handicapping show and is frequently sought after as an expert on many local and national sports handicapping shows. A key tool in any handicapper's arsenal is a solid group of Power Ratings, and Bryan is much sought after for his expertise. As a consultant to oddsmakers, Bryan has seen the action on both sides of the counter. His numbers are regarded by many to be as strong as any in the country.

Bryan was the 2000 regular season champion of the Sunset Station Invitational Handicapping Contest, as well as the second-place finisher in 2001. In fact, Bryan is the only handicapper to finish in the top five in each of the final three seasons of that contest. He was also a Top 10 Finisher in the 2003 Hilton Superbook Contest, as well as an invited guest in the 2003 and 2004 Stardust Invitationals. Mr. Leonard is also a Two Time Finalist in the Cantor Football Showdown, which is filmed live from the Golden Nugget Sportsbook in downtown Las Vegas. Bryan has now been a finalist 7 times in various Las Vegas handicapping contests.

Quality over quantity has been Bryan's mantra in sports gambling. If you are looking for a shotgun approach to this business, keep looking. As Bryan releases only the games, he bets himself. If he can't find a wager worth making that day, Bryan will pass, living to fight another day. He started out way back when specializing in the NBA with great success. And has since moved on to cover all four major sports in the United States. Bryan has produced huge profit the past three seasons in MLB action and has yet to have a losing NHL campaign. If you are looking for a long-term, proven winner in pro and college action, look no further.
