THE PLAY: Tampa Bay Rays -132 Jose Soriano (RHP), Nick Martinez (RHP) Must Start
Last Call for Summer: Buy 3, Get 3 FREE — Just $69
Lock in 6 full days of All-Access for the price of 3 — double the coverage, zero extra cost. Limited time only.
The Rays have the edge on Tuesday behind Nick Martinez, who enters 12-3 with a 2.74 ERA and 1.09 WHIP and has won each of his last five starts against losing AL East opponents. Tampa Bay also has the superior offensive profile, ranking first in baseball with a .261 batting average and producing 566 runs, compared with only 492 for Toronto. The Blue Jays have been one of the league's weaker offensive clubs overall, carrying a .242 average and a .304 on-base percentage while ranking last in RBIs. Junior Caminero gives Tampa Bay legitimate game-changing power with 35 home runs and 79 RBIs, and the Rays continue to generate consistent traffic throughout a deep lineup. Jose Soriano has pitched well recently, but his 1.25 WHIP is considerably higher than Martinez's 1.09 mark, which could become important against a Rays lineup built around contact and putting runners on base. Tampa Bay also has a substantial home-field advantage, going 42-21 at home compared with Toronto's 28-32 road record. The head-to-head situational numbers reinforce that edge, as the Rays have won 10 consecutive home games against Toronto after a win, while the Blue Jays have lost eight straight road games against Tampa Bay following a loss.
The Rays are 405-267 (60.3%; +6.2% ROI) in home affairs with totals of fewer than nine runs, 445-311 (58.9%; +5.9% ROI) following a win, and 148-102 (59.2%; +1.7% ROI) at home in series openers following a straight-up win, including 62-39 (61.4%; +2.8% ROI) since 2018, winning by an average margin of 1.1 runs per game. Finally, the Rays are looking to avenge a 3-1 loss to Toronto last month, which is significant because .551 or greater division home favorites with revenge are 373-216 (63.3%; +2.9% ROI) in the opening game of a series, including 123-62 (66.5%; +6.4% ROI) since 2019, winning by an average of 1.3 runs per game. With Martinez on the mound, the better offense, and a strong historical home-field edge in this matchup, take the Tampa Bay Rays as Jeff Keim’s Free Pick Winner for Tuesday, August 18.
THE PLAY: Milwaukee Brewers -142 Bryce Miller (RHP), Kyle Harrison (LHP) Must Start
Get the Rest of the Year for $799 — Save $696!
One payment locks in every sport, every 5% Best Bet, straight through December 31. CFB, NFL, NHL, NBA, NCAA Basketball — all included. Paid monthly, that's $1,495. Pay once now and save 47%.
The Brewers are in an excellent position to continue their strong season Tuesday, especially at American Family Field, where they own an impressive 41-22 record. Kyle Harrison gives Milwaukee a significant advantage on the mound, entering with a 9-3 record and posting a dominant 1.38 ERA with a 6-1 record at home.
Kyle Harrison’s 2026 Metrics
• 3.47 ERA, 3.23 xERA, 3.35 FIP, 3.10 xFIP, and 3.10 SIERA
• 10.99 K/9 and 29.7% K%
Harrison has also earned a victory in five of his last six home appearances while recording seven or more strikeouts in five of his last six starts as a home favorite. That creates an especially difficult matchup for a Seattle offense that ranks last in MLB in runs scored and has averaged just 1.5 runs per game against left-handed pitching over its last 10. Bryce Miller's overall 3.39 ERA looks solid, but his recent form is concerning, as he has surrendered at least four runs in three of his last four starts and owns a 4.47 ERA on the road. Milwaukee's patient approach should also create problems for Miller, as the Brewers rank second in walks and post a strong .335 on-base percentage. Jackson Chourio provides additional offensive upside, having homered in three of his last four home games while recording at least one hit in nine consecutive appearances against AL West opponents.
The situational numbers also support Milwaukee, with Seattle losing eight of its last nine games after a road victory and trailing after five innings in 11 consecutive road games against National League opponents. Since 2003, MLB home favorites with starting pitchers whose WHIP is 1.30 or better are 1288-689 (65.1%; +2.9% ROI) versus opposing starters whose ERA is 3.50 or better in May-August affairs. Finally, Seattle arrives off back-to-back wins over the Astros, but MLB road underdogs coming off two or more consecutive wins are just 1989-2897 (40.7%; -3.9% ROI) since 2008. With Harrison's dominance at home, Seattle's struggles against left-handed pitching, and the Brewers' superior lineup and home-field performance, take the Milwaukee Brewers as Jeff Keim’s Free Pick Winner for Tuesday, August 18.
