St. Jude Championship Course: Why TPC Southwind Matters for Bettors
The FedEx St. Jude Championship opens the 2026 FedEx Cup Playoffs at TPC Southwind, where only the top 70 players on the PGA Tour tee it up in one of the strongest fields of the season.
This par-70 layout measures 7,288 yards and is known for rewarding precision over power. While length is certainly an advantage, success at Southwind comes from finding fairways, hitting quality approach shots, and avoiding the numerous water hazards that come into play throughout the round.
TPC Southwind features Bermudagrass greens, tight driving corridors, and some of the toughest par-3s on the PGA Tour. Water is in play on 11 holes, meaning one poor swing can quickly turn a birdie opportunity into a double bogey.
Players who consistently gain strokes with their irons and remain patient on the greens tend to thrive here, while those who struggle with accuracy often find themselves out of contention.
With the playoffs beginning this week, every shot carries extra importance. The course doesn’t require players to overpower it, but it does demand smart decision-making and disciplined ball striking from start to finish. Winning scores typically fall in the low-to-mid teens under par,
making TPC Southwind a true championship test where elite approach play, strong Bermuda putting, and avoiding big mistakes are the keys to lifting the trophy.
Golfers to Avoid Betting at the St. Jude Championship

–Cameron Young and Viktor Hovland have both lost their putting last 30 days -0.56 total strokes gained

–Wyndham Clark’s driving accuracy has completely left him the last 3 tourneys -Alex Fitzpatrick putting last 3 tournaments -1.42
St. Jude Championship: Best DraftKings DFS Picks for The Open
Sungjae Im ($6,700) looks like an excellent value in this price range. He’s coming off 14th and 15th-place finishes in his last two starts and finished 17th here last year, showing the course fits his game. While the iron play hasn’t been at its usual level, he’s made up for it with above-average scrambling and putting. Add in his accuracy off the tee, and he has a great chance to deliver another solid four-round performance.
Jacob Bridgeman ($7,200) continues to quietly put together one of the more consistent seasons
on Tour. He finished 17th here last year and enters this week on three straight Top 30 finishes. He isn’t one of the longest hitters in the field, but his driving accuracy is a perfect fit for this course. Over the last 30 days, he ranks in the top half of the field in total strokes gained, making him a strong blend of safety and upside at this salary.
Rickie Fowler ($7,500) is playing his best golf in quite a while. He’s finished 8th, 18th, and 15th in his last three tournaments and added a 6th-place finish here last year, giving him both recent form and course history. The underlying numbers back it up as well, ranking 12th in the field in total strokes gained over the last 30 days. At this price, Fowler has the upside to outperform his salary and contend for another top finish.
Rest Of Lineup: Davis Thompson, Michael Brennan, Cameron Young
