Wyndham Championship Course: Why Sedgefield Country Club Matters for Bettors
The 2026 Wyndham Championship returns to Sedgefield Country Club, the final stop of the PGA Tour regular season before the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
This classic Donald Ross-designed par-70 measures just over 7,100 yards, making it one of the shorter courses on Tour. Length isn’t the key to success here. Instead, Sedgefield rewards accuracy off the tee, elite iron play, and a hot putter on its Champion Bermudagrass greens.
The course features tree-lined fairways, subtle doglegs, and Ross’s trademark small, sloping greens that demand precise approach shots. Players who consistently position themselves in the fairway will have plenty of birdie opportunities, but those who miss their targets will quickly find themselves scrambling to save par.
With only two par-5s, scoring comes from taking advantage of the shorter par-4s and converting birdie chances with wedges and mid-irons.
As the last event before the playoffs, the pressure is always high, with players battling for the final FedEx Cup positions. That urgency often leads to aggressive play and low scores, with the winner typically reaching 20-under par or better.
Sedgefield doesn’t overpower the field—it rewards smart golf, consistent ball-striking, and confidence on the greens, making it one of the best venues for precision players to shine.
Golfers to Avoid Betting at the Wyndham Championship
Ben Griffin has cooled off at the wrong time. After a strong stretch earlier this season, he’s coming off a missed cut and a 59th-place finish in his last two starts. The underlying numbers are just as concerning—his driving accuracy has fallen off, and both the putter and around-the green game have been well below his usual standard. While he does have solid course history here, the recent form simply doesn’t justify pricing him as a Top 7 favorite. I’m staying away.
Aaron Rai has been outstanding at this event with a win and a 5th-place finish over the last two years, but current form matters. His putter has completely abandoned him, losing -1.11 strokes over his last two tournaments.
On a course where low scores are required to contend, that’s a major red flag. As the 12th betting favorite, I need to see much better performance on the greens before I’m willing to back him.
Brooks Koepka is an easy fade for me this week. He’s priced as a Top 11 favorite, but the recent results don’t come close to supporting that number—28th, missed cut, missed cut, and a withdrawal in his last four starts.
Over the last three months, his short game has been well below average, the irons haven’t rounded into form, and his driving accuracy has been inconsistent. There just aren’t enough positives to justify the price. This is an absolute fade.
Wyndham Championship: Best DraftKings DFS Picks for The Open
Emiliano Grillo ($7,300) continues to be one of the best DraftKings values on the board. He’s posted Top 31 finishes in each of his last five tournaments and has made the cut here in each of the last two years. More importantly, the underlying metrics are elite—over the last two months, Grillo ranks 4th in this field in total strokes gained. With his current form and consistency, he once again profiles as a high-floor, high-upside DFS option.
Chris Kirk ($7,400) showed signs of life last week on a course that has always suited his game, and this week sets up similarly. He finished 5th here last year and enters with back-to-back solid finishes, giving him some much-needed momentum. Course comfort has always been a big factor for Kirk, and history suggests he can elevate his game at this venue. At this salary, he’s an excellent mid-range target.
Ben Kohles ($7,700) has quietly become one of the steadiest players in the field. He’s made six straight cuts on the PGA Tour, and every one of those finishes has been inside the Top 30.
Like Grillo, his recent statistical profile has been outstanding, ranking 7th in this field in total strokes gained over the last two months. With his combination of consistency and current form, Kohles offers both a strong floor and legitimate top-15 upside.
