Cognizant Classic Course: PGA National Resort (Champion Course)
The 2026 Cognizant Classic returns to the Champion Course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, one of the most demanding stops on the Florida swing.
This par-71 layout plays just over 7,100 yards, but yardage is rarely the story here. The course is defined by heavy bunkering, narrow landing areas, and water hazards in play on the majority of holes, forcing players to think their way around rather than overpower it.
The famous “Bear Trap” — holes 15, 16, and 17 — remains one of the most difficult three-hole stretches on the PGA Tour, with water lurking on nearly every shot.
Precision iron play and confident putting on Bermudagrass greens are essential, especially when nerves tighten over the weekend.
While wind often defines this tournament, forecasts suggest minimal wind this week, which could soften the course’s usual bite.
There is a chance of rain on Friday and possibly Saturday, which may make the greens more receptive and keep scoring from getting out of control.
With a weaker-than-usual field, this event sets up as a prime opportunity for a mid-tier or rising player to contend.
Even without heavy winds, PGA National’s bunkers, water hazards, and demanding approach shots will ensure that patience and smart course management remain the keys to victory.
Cognizant Classic: Players That Can Trip You Up
Brooks Koepka is still living off name value, but the numbers don’t lie. Through two tournaments he’s losing -2.12 strokes putting, and that’s not new—he hasn’t putted well for years.
The rest of the game is serviceable, but you can’t survive with a cold putter on birdie heavy setups. He’s finished 56th and missed the cut in his first two events back on the PGA Tour. Until the flat stick shows life, he’s a trap.
Aaron Rai hasn’t done enough to warrant serious consideration. He finished 28th last week, but the season-long stats are shaky: -0.32 strokes gained putting, -0.23 off the tee, and weak around-the-green numbers.
That’s not the profile of someone ready to contend. Add in course history of 66th and a missed cut in two appearances, and there’s very little to hang your hat on. Easy fade.
Keith Mitchell is being priced as a Top 7 option, which feels wildly aggressive. He finished 42nd here last year and has struggled this season, losing -0.48 strokes putting while his approach play hasn’t been sharp.
Four of his five starts this year have ended outside the Top 40. At this number, you’re paying for upside that simply hasn’t shown up. He’s a clear fade this week.
Cognizant Classic: DraftKings Darlings
Tom Kim ($7,400) has quietly been steady to start the season, making all five cuts so far and making the cut in his only appearance at this tournament.
The putter hasn’t been great, but his accuracy off the tee keeps him in play and sets up manageable approach shots. In a weak field, sometimes you have to click names that make you a little nervous—but Tom’s consistency gives him a strong floor with upside if the putter cooperates.
John Parry ($7,500) has been one of the true DraftKings Darlings this year. He’s made all four cuts this season and continues to show balance in his game.
He’s gaining +0.54 strokes putting and his approach play has been steady, which is a great combination at this price point. Parry keeps giving us weekend points, and there’s no reason to get off the train now.
John Keefer ($7,800) is another model of consistency with a perfect cut record this season. The short game has been rough—putting and around-the-green numbers haven’t been good—but his tee-to-green game ranks 5th best in the field.
That kind of ball-striking creates birdie opportunities, and if the putter even heats up slightly, he could smash value. He’s a risk-reward play with legitimate upside.
Rest of Lineup: Mac Meissner $8000, Nicolai Hojgaard $9400, Shane Lowry $9900
