Missouri Football Preview 2023: Missouri Picks for Betting

Eliah Drinkwitz is my friend now with a nice middle wager hitting last year on their season win total. I’m not sure he’s Missouri’s friend thus far with a 17-19 record (0-2 bowl games). I think it’s reasonable to expect more than six wins from Missouri football in ’23. Read on to see if I think it’s a done deal.

Missouri Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH

Brady Cook fended off all challengers at QB and now is a grizzled veteran. He’ll have a new offensive coordinator (Fresno), as the Tigers disappointed with run and point offense totals a year ago. Sadly (for them) their top WR was poached by Georgia.

The rest of the offense should show improved numbers, although it seems a bit strange that the OL coach left after the Spring. Eight starters return defensively, but sack totals may regress with the top two guys gone.

The run defense is a worry, but the secondary looks good. PK Mevis is certainly confident, but he missed two SHORT kicks and cost them a game. The return game options are plentiful.

Missouri Football 2023 Predictions, Missouri Schedule:

Games 3-5 should give me plenty of info. They host a good Kansas State team, play Memphis in St. Louis, and travel to Vanderbilt.

If Drinkwitz really IS going to make this better, 2-1 has to be the floor. Games 6-8 are home to LSU, at Kentucky and home to South Carolina. While difficult, this is a veteran team that needs another positive outcome.

My pre-checks are WR play and the run defense. If they split these six games, then the record is likely 5-4, assuming a loss at Georgia. Missouri closes hosting Tennessee (128 points allowed last two years, yikes), home to Florida (lost last year, run defense shredded) and at Arkansas (50-50?).

Missouri Football Bottom Line:

Sadly, 6-6, with 7-5 possible. There’s plenty of tossup games in the mix, and Missouri has more experience than most, but missing is pizazz at QB, their leading WR, and a pass rush that may be decent, yet fall short of ’22 numbers.  I should know early if Missouri is a cut above.
