Chelsea vs Wolves Analysis

Coming off a surprising loss to Everton over the weekend, Chelsea will be buoyed by the news over the past couple of days that a sale has been agreed for the club and the recent turmoil and controversy surrounding former Russian owner Roman Abramovic may finally be put to rest.

Wolves meanwhile, after looking likely for a European place earlier in the season are now watching those hopes slowly dwindle after four losses over their last five games in the English Premier League.

Wolves’ Worst Performance Of The Season

Bruno Lage, Wolves’ boss who took charge at the club at the end of last season, stated Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Brighton was the worst performance he’s seen from his side since he took over at the club last summer.

More concerning than results is arguably the way Wolves are playing right now also, not registering a single shot on target in Saturday’s game against Brighton until the 85th minute.

In fact since March 1st, no team in the EPL has created less expected goals on offense than Wolves have and another low scoring effort is expected from them here on Saturday as well as they’ve produced three blanks over their last four road games in the EPL.

Chelsea On Form In Attack

While Wolves have struggled in front of goals over recent games, it’s been the opposite story for Chelsea as the Blues rank No. 1 in the league in terms of expected goals created since March 1st, scoring 2.11 goals per game on average also over the last two months to stay in line with the data.

However, with just two wins over their last six games in all, Chelsea need to starting putting results together quickly in order to gather some momentum ahead of next Saturday’s crucial FA Cup final against Liverpool at Wembley.

Chelsea vs Wolves Prediction

After a tremendous start to the season which saw Wolves even flirt with top four for a brief period, the limitations of Bruno Lage’s squad are finally starting to show as the season winds down and depth has always been a factor for this Wolves team.

What they do however, they do incredibly well and under Bruno Lage they’ve arguably been even more impressive than they were under former boss Nuno Espirito Santo as some of their best players have headed off to bigger clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham and Barcelona over recent seasons and yet they’ve still continued to grind out positive results with the squad they have.

That constant grind is starting to take it’s toll however and Chelsea are a team with no such issues in depth as their bench is absolutely littered with world class talent and we expect that to show in this one.

Take Chelsea -1.25 on the Asian handicap on Saturday against Wolves in the English Premier League.
