Chelsea vs West Ham Analysis

Two of the capital’s top clubs face each other on Sunday as West Ham travel the short distance across town to face the current European champions Chelsea this weekend. European competition will be prevalent on West Ham’s mind ahead of this game as they have a huge tie coming up in next week’s Europa League semifinals against Barcelona-killers Eintracht Frankfurt.

Chelsea looks safe in the third spot in the Premier League with a game in-hand and a five point cushion over Tottenham, so it’ll be interesting to see how they approach this game with their big FA Cup final against Liverpool (something they lost last year against Leicester) still a few weeks out.

West Ham’s Poor Track Record at Stamford Bridge

While the Hammers try and rally to stay in the top four picture in the Premier League this season it certainly looks like a tall order right now as they currently sit five points back with a game extra played on their rivals.

However, with Barcelona knocked out of the Europa League in the last round by current opponents Eintracht Frankfurt, that gives David Moyes’ club a much more favorable route to the Champions League for next season as his side are big favorites to reach the final over Frankfurt.

And it’s frankly just as well as West Ham has lost three of their four away London derbies this season along with winning just one of their last 16 head-to-head matchups inside Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea Starting To Tail Off

Whether through off the field concerns, sanctions, Lukaku’s form or the fact they have little left to play for in the league this year bar a complete late season collapse, Chelsea’s performances have dipped considerably over recent games.

Bar the Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Real Madrid where they looked fantastic in almost coming back and knocking out the Spanish giants, Chelsea have been lukewarm in domestic competition, ranking as the fourth-worst team in the league at home since March 1st and have allowed eight goals over just their last three appearances inside Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea vs West Ham Prediction

Despite all of Chelsea’s struggles at home of late, with only four days separating this game from West Ham’s crucial European semifinal against Eintracht Frankfurt, expect David Moyes to prioritize that game ahead of this one for his players should things get testy for them here in West London on Sunday.

Chelsea has a fantastic record at home against West Ham over recent seasons and have shutout West Ham in six of their last ten head-to-heads at this venue as well.

Both the Chelsea -1 and Chelsea to win to nil prop at +150 look like the most appealing bets in this game as Chelsea should bounce back from that loss against Arsenal in midweek with a comprehensive win and cover here on Sunday against West Ham.
