Bulls vs Spurs Analysis

Two teams coming in off some good form on Monday night as the San Antonio Spurs enter Chicago’s United Center tonight coming off back-to-back consecutive road wins by double digits against the Atlanta Hawks and New Orleans Pelicans respectively, while the Chicago Bulls have won three straight games themselves of late, covering by an average margin of 6 points.

This will be the teams’ second meeting of the season so far with the Spurs winning and covering at home back on January 28th against the Bulls as -2 home favorites.

San Antonio’s Underrated Road Defense

Despite giving up an average of 117.5 ppg over their two most recent starts, San Antonio actually have an underrated defense on the road this year.

The Spurs rank 7th in the league on overall defensive efficiency this season on the road, allowing almost 2 points less in the paint, along with having a lower opponent floor percentage and three point shooting percentage on the road this season as well.

Chicago ‘Heating’ Up

The Chicago Bulls now sit just one game back from the conference leading Miami Heat over in the East, and will look to close that gap even further with another red-hot performance from league scoring leader DeMar DeRozan on Monday night.

DeRozan has scored 1,469 points already this season, #1 in the league, and comes off a career high 30+ points in six straight games for the Bulls heading into tonight’s clash against the Spurs.

Bulls vs Spurs Prediction

We’re taking the Chicago Bulls tonight at home to win and cover against the San Antonio Spurs.

San Antonio come off a monster effort over their last two games, averaging over 18 ppg more than their in-season average, but we don’t believe that continues here tonight.

The Spurs gave up just 5 turnovers total against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, way down from their season average of 12.6 per game and their road average of 13.1 this season also.

Meanwhile, despite beating out the Oklahoma City Thunder 106-101 on Saturday, the Chicago Bulls didn’t play particularly well in that game, having to rally from a 4th quarter deficit to finally overcome the Thunder down the stretch in that one, and the Bulls effective field goal percentage was down over 5% as well.

We expect Chicago to play much better tonight, even with Zach LaVine out of the lineup, and like the Bulls at home minus the points to get the win and cover on Monday night against the Spurs.

Bulls vs Spurs Preview from GoldSheet

The Rodeo Road Trip has gotten off to a promising start for the Spurs, who after a loss in Cleveland have won at Atlanta and New Orleans as the excursion reaches the halfway point tonight at United Center. After comrade Derrick White was moved to the Celtics at the deadline, Dejounte Murray has stepped up with 31 and 32-point efforts, respectively, vs. the Hawks and Pelicans as Coach Pop continues to have his team hanging close to the cut-line to qualify for the West’s play-in round.

Speaking of Murray, the Bulls know all about him after he recently burned Chicago for 29 in the Spurs’ high-scoring 131-122 win at AT&T Center on Jan. 29, the same night DeMar DeRozan hit his old team for 32 points in his first return to San Antonio since spending three seasons in the Alamo City. As for DeRozan, he’s tapped a rich vein of form, scoring 35+ in five straight, tying none other than Michael Jordan (who did it four times) for a franchise record, but Chicago remains a bit thinned on the perimeter and won’t have Zach LaVine tonight, either, as he has gone to California to consult with a knee specialist in hopes of being able to play in the All-Star game next Sunday as a best-case scenario.

And while this “total” is into the 230s, note that the Bulls have usually been clearing those hurdles lately, scoring 120 or more and landing “over” in eight of ten.
