Nets vs Kings Analysis

The new-look Kings travel to Brooklyn to take on the Nets who look more like a team going for a lottery pick as opposed to a championship contender. The Kings are -3.5 favorites and the total is 229 points and I’m just trying to wrap my head around the Kings being favored in Brooklyn as if you would’ve suggested that six weeks ago I would’ve laughed you out of the room. However, our goal is to find a winning bet so let’s dive in, and see what the numbers present us.

NETS CAN’T STOP THE BLEEDING

The Nets have now lost 11 games in a row, they’re 2-7-1 ATS their last 10 games and their starting lineup tonight is completely bizarre as they will be rolling with Patty Mills, Seth Curry, Bruce Brown, Kessler Edwards and Nick Claxton. They lost by four in their last game to Miami, but that was mostly due to a late 4th quarter run in garbage time. Before that they lost by one to the Wizards who might be the worst team in the league, and both those games they had Kyrie Irving.

Before those games there are several 20 point losses and 10 point losses, and that was with Irving playing. It’s tough to look at season stats right now with Brooklyn because they are certainly not a good indicator as to what will happen tonight, so we’re using recent performances to judge this team and it isn’t pretty.

NEW KINGS, NEW ATTITUDE?

The Kings are 2-0 their last two games with Sabonis in and Haliburton out so maybe we’re seeing an improved Kings team? Let’s not get too excited though as the two wins were against Washington and the second of a back to back with Minnesota. They haven’t played great defensive units, but you have to be impressed with the Kings scoring 123, 132 and 134 the last three games, and tonight’s opponent might be worse on defense than the previous three games.

Now that Haliburton is gone, Fox is the man in the backcourt so it’s not as clunky and they don’t have to figure out who’s going to score and who’s going to distribute. Sabonis has fit right in, and has been productive as soon as he stepped on the court, and he should thrive tonight against Claxton.

NETS vs KINGS PREDICTION

The last game the Nets played without Kyrie, Harden and Durant was a few nights ago against Boston and they got crushed by 35 points and started off the game going down 28-2. Seth Curry provides some shooting, but I don’t know who gets him the ball, and I certainly don’t know how Brooklyn is going to defend a Kings offense that is shooting over 50% from the field the last three games.

The team total for the Kings is only 115.5 and I think they sail over this total again like they’ve done the last three games. There are one on one advantages all over the court tonight for Sacramento, and as few games as this Kings team has played together, this Brooklyn starting lineup will be playing for their first time.

Nets vs Kings Preview from GoldSheet

Brooklyn coming off a much better effort, but still went down to its 11th-straight loss at Miami Saturday. The Nets had won and covered 6 straight against the Kings until the Nets visited Sacramento 12 days ago and took a 112-101 body blow for their then 6th straight loss en route to their current 11-game slide.

This is where the pain ends for the Nets. Granted the Kings have won two in a row since trading Buddy Hield and Tyrese Haliburton and acquiring (essentially) Domantas Sabonis from Indiana. And Sabonis has scored 19 ppg, shot 61% and grabbed 12.5 rpg with 6 apg in his first two games with his new employers, but this will be a bit of a different story.

NBA teams tend to notice when streaks (especially losing streak) reach double-digits. The Nets fought hard enough to have earned a win as an 11-point dog against Miami on Saturday, and should put a stop to the nosedive with a victory in this one. Let’s not forget that the Kings are 1-14 straight-up in their last 15 on the road after beating Washington on Saturday.
