Pelicans vs Raptors Analysis

The Toronto Raptors head south for an inter-conference matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Raptors record dropped to 31-24 after suffering a 110-109 home loss to the Denver Nuggets. The Pelicans also fell short at home on Saturday to the San Antonio Spurs 124-114. The Raptors prevailed 105-101 at home against the Pels on January 9th.

New-Look Pels Look to Stop Slide

The New Orleans Pelicans followed up their four win streak by dropping two in a row to the Miami Heat and Spurs. Their record on the season is 22-34 as they sit a half game away from the play-in round. They were led by CJ Mccollum as he scored 36 points and snagged 11 rebounds. Brandon Ingram also chipped in with 22 points, while Jonas Valanciunas had a 17 point, 12 rebound double double.

The Pels don’t have any current players on the injury report other than Zion Williamson and Larry Nance Jr who haven’t played with the team yet this season. New Orleans ranks 26th in scoring with 105.8 points and 16th in scoring defense as they allow 109.4 points per game.

Raptors Look to Start New Streak

Toronto was on an eight game win streak prior to Saturdays loss against Denver. Pascal Siakim had a monster effort with 35 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. The Raptors battled the Nuggs but fell a point short as Nikola Jokic blocked their final shot.

The Raptors sport a clean injury report coming into this game. Toronto is now in the thick of things in the East and will be looking to start a five game road trip on the right foot. The Raptors only allow 106.9 points a game ranking them 9th in the league. They are middle of the pack in scoring with a little over 109 points per game.

Pelicans vs Raptors Prediction

The Toronto Raptors are 4-point road favorites with a 222.5 over/under. The Raptors are 32-22-1 against the spread, while New Orleans is 27- 28-1 ATS. The Raps have been on a roll lately, winning of 8 of their last 9 games and scoring 120 points a game on 52% shooting during that span. They have been aggressive on the offensive glass and careful with the ball. Their one weakness is defending opposing bigs, but Siakim and Birch should be able to slow down Valanciunas. We will look to Raptors to cover spread in this one.

Pelicans vs Raptors Preview from GoldSheet

New Orleans has covered the last three meetings with the Raptors, sweeping the series 2-0 last year and going into the Scotiabank Arena and throwing a scare into Nick Nurse on Jan. 9, when the Pelicans gave Toronto a tight game most of the way and were even at 99 with just 1:33 to play before Fred VanVleet, Chris Boucher and Khem Birch made the plays down the stretch.

Ex-Raptor Jonas Valanciunas had 20 pts. and 17 rebounds in that game, and now New Orleans has added CJ McCollum, who scored 25.5 ppg and shot 47% while grabbing 9 rpg and dishing 5 assists in the first two games with his new team.

New Orleans is not great as a ‘dog this season (19-23), but Toronto is 18-10 against the spread as a favorite, including a 7-1 mark last eight since the Raptors got healthy.
