Chicago Bulls vs New York Knicks Predictions

- Total: 209.5 Points
- The Knicks are 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 games.
- Chicago is 8-2 against the spread as a favorite this season.
The Knicks are at the Bulls on Sunday in a matchup with a bit of a strange scheduling aspect. The Bulls are coming off a five game road trip and this will be their first home game since Nov. 10. The Knicks have played three home games in a row and are going on the road for the first time since November 12th. The Knicks have won two out of three, but their wins were against the struggling Pacers, the putrid Rockets, and the lost to the really bad Orlando Magic. The Bulls are winners of three out of four with wins over both LA team and the Nuggets with a loss against Portland.
So what can we expect from these two teams on Sunday? Both teams are middle of the road in pace of play, but Chicago has a big advantage in defense on the perimeter. Caruso and Ball have been fantastic disrupting the other teams offense, and the Knicks are not a team that is in a good groove on offense. On the flip side, New York plays really good team defense, and if they want to have a chance in winning this game the defense will have to take over as they are only shooting 41.9% from the field the last three games, where Chicago is shooting 46.7%.
I want to take the under with this game as I see both offenses to not thrive in this game, but I really like the first half under. The Bulls are 10-6 to the under in the first half, and the Knicks are 9-6 to the under in the first half in the season. The Bulls are still without an inside presence to give balance to the Bulls offense, and the Knicks don’t have good ball movement as evident by their 16.5 assists per game average as a team which isn’t going to get better with Ball and Caruso being pests to the guards. I expect clunky offenses in the game with a slow start, so I’ll take the first half under as my official play for the game.

Overnight lines of Chicago 5½ seems too cheap considering New York is coming off a home game last night vs. Houston and the Bulls are rested. Chicago has won and covered 5 of their last 7, as well as sporting a 5-2 spread mark at home this season. It’s correct that New York has controlled this series the last few years, winning and covering 7 of the last 10 vs. Chicago since the beginning of the 2018-19 season (and the games have gone under the last four). But, as we’ve pointed out more than a few times, this Bulls edition is upgraded over last season.
Chicago will be rested and ready and this number seems a bit cheap, even with Nikola Vucevic still in Covid protocols (Zach LaVine & DeMar DeRozan combining for 56 ppg and shooting 50% in last 5 games). Bulls avenge home loss to New York suffered Oct. 28, when Kemba Walker held off the bulls with his hot hand. His hand isn’t hot right now.
