Cleveland Cavaliers vs Brooklyn Nets Predictions

  • Cleveland Cavaliers +7.5 vs Brooklyn Nets
  • Total: 207.5 Points
  • The under is 13-3 in Cleveland’s last 16 games.
  • Cleveland’s last seven home games have stayed under the total, with the Cavaliers failing to reach 100 points in six of those seven.

The Nets will be playing at Cleveland on Monday in a matchup that we saw on Wednesday with Brooklyn winning 109-99 with huge games from Durant and Harden of course, and unexpected gems from Patty Mills and Lamarcus Aldridge (who saw that coming). The Cavaliers have lost three straight, but losing to Boston two nights after you beat them is not an indictment of them, and neither is losing to Brooklyn and Golden State in back to back games. It’s a tough stretch for Cleveland as they get Boston twice, Brooklyn twice, Golden State and Phoenix in 14 days. Brooklyn comes into the game winning 10 out of 12 with their losses coming to Golden State and Chicago, and most important for them right now is that Durant and Harden are healthy and rolling.

Injuries are now a big part of the Cavaliers story right now as Sexton is officially out for the season, and Evan Mobley will out for a couple more weeks. Ricky Rubio has been a surprise as he’s moved into the starting lineup, and Garland and Love have played well at times, but those injuries can only be covered up for so long. Brooklyn’s issue is obviously depth. Harden and Durant are asked to do everything, and although Aldridge and Mills have put up shocking numbers at times, they aren’t consistent. Blake Griffin is good for a few points and around 6 rebounds, but against Orlando when Durant sat, the Magic only lost by two points as they had six players in double figures with the Nets only having four. Durant looks like he will play, so for this game we’ll prepare for Brooklyn to have their squad, and for Cleveland to to have theirs minus Sexton and Mobley.

Brooklyn and Cleveland have been full game under teams so far as Cleveland is 12-5 to the under while Brooklyn is 10-7 to the under, and one stat I find interesting about Cleveland is that they are the best team in covering first half spreads as they are 13-4 against the spread 1H and Brooklyn is only 8-7-2. The full game line is around Nets -7.5 and the total looks like it will settle around 207.5. Cleveland is very well rested as they have not played since Thursday, and Brooklyn was off Saturday and Sunday, so is there a part of this game worth investing in?

Absolutely.

I’ll be on the over. With both teams getting a few days break I expect the offenses to be clicking, and the shooting to be good. Last game between these two ended at 208 and that’s with Cleveland going 11-42 from three pointers. Durant and Harden will get their points, and Garland and company should see contributions from everyone. The game was close outside a bad second quarter, and I think Cleveland playing at home will play Brooklyn tough so I don’t see a blowout scenario with low point totals in the fourth quarter. Look for Cleveland to play well and hold the game closer than most would think against Brooklyn and for good shooting from both teams take this over the full game total of 207.5 points.

Official Play: OVER 207.5

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Brooklyn Nets Analysis from The GoldSheet

Quick turnaround from last Wednesday at Barclays Center, when the Nets won by ten. The Cavs were more than a bit shorthanded, down six players including frontliners Jarrett Allen and USC rookie Evan Mobley, and G Collin Sexton already done for the season. Thus almost half of Cleveland’s points were scored by guards Ricky Rubio and Darius Garland, which couldn’t keep pace with the four Brooklyn double-digit scorers led by James Harden’s 27 points.
