2024 RBC Heritage: Harbour Town Golf Links

Par 71 – 7,213 Yards

This is a fun, short course that requires an incredible tee-to-green game to have success. The greens are some of the smallest on tour so scrambling will be a requirement as it was last week.

There are a couple of Par 5s where bombers can have an advantage, but it’s much more important to land the ball on the correct side of the fairway off the tee than it is to bomb and pray.

The weather looks to be fantastic Thursday-Saturday with the chance of rain late on Sunday, but they will surely make sure the tournament gets finished before the bad weather moves in.

Accuracy off the tee and accuracy on approach shots will give players a chance to go low over four rounds, and I suspect someone will get to -18 this week as the winning score.

Favorite Holes

Hole 4 Par 3, 200 Yards

I love this tee shot as there is nothing but water to the left of the green, and the right side is a bail-out area. Players have to have the utmost confidence to go at the pin on this hole, especially the the pin is front left. It’s a great Par 3.

Hole 8 Par 4, 475 Yards

The hardest hole on the course, this is a classic example of accuracy off the tee being crucial. Players must hit the right side of the fairway to have an angle into this green which has bunker and water to the left and a sharp runoff to the right.

Hole 15 Par 5, 585 Yards

This hole is really tough to reach in two, but the perfect length and placement of the drive will let a few guys have a chance to give it a shot. It’s high risk though as water and bunkers surround the hole. Most will end up laying up, and then it becomes who can nail their wedges from 100 yards and less out on the third shot.

RBC Heritage Field

This is now an elevated event so the field looks somewhat similar to last week’s field at the top with Scheffler, Aberg, Morikawa, Homa, and Schauffele playing among others.

It’s a short field with an elevated purse so there will be no cut at the event.

RBC Heritage: Players That Can Trip You Up

*Get Ready To Fade Scottie Scheffler After He Has His Baby

Rory McIlroy

I can’t think of a worse type of course for McIlroy’s game than this one. The best part of his game is his power off the tee, and it’s one of the least important factors at this course.

His approach and putting numbers are outside the Top 30 in this field, and his around-the-green stats are well below average.

He’s only played this tournament one time and he finished 41st. It’s a bad fit for him, and he still only has one finish better than 19th on Tour this year. I’m not sure if he’ll be a popular pick, but he’s a big-time fade for me this week.

Patrick Cantlay

He has an incredible course history here as he’s finished top 7 in 5 out of the 6 times he’s played here, but he’s not the same player this year.

He’s not been accurate off the tee, but his approaches have been especially terrible as he’s -0.28 the last 3 months.

Around the green, he’s been awful as well, and putting is average at best. I’ll take his current form into account much more than course history so he’ll be a big-time stay away this week.

Max Homa

He played great last week at a course that he normally doesn’t play well at, but he was clearly gearing up for that event, and I see a letdown from him this week.

He only has 2 top-10 finishes this season, and the last time he finished top 10 he finished 64th the next week.

He played here last year and missed the cut, and Max said in an interview that he hadn’t had a drink in a while leading up to the Masters, but he was definitely going to be celebrating after The Masters.

It’s safe to say, he didn’t do anything productive on Monday 🙂 and I could see some lingering effects from falling off the wagon.

His stats also aren’t that great this season the last 3 months. His putting has been good, but his tee-to-green numbers are well below the field average, and his accuracy from his drives and approaches have left a lot to be desired. He’s a stay away.

RBC Heritage: DraftKings Darlings

Nick Taylor $6,600

Nick Taylor missed the cut last week, but it’s The Masters, and that’s been his only missed cut this season. He finished 41st here last year so I don’t understand why he’s priced so low, but I’ll take it.

Lucas Glover $6,800

Glover’s last three finishes are 20th, 25th and 11th and his stats seem to fit this course well as he’s not long off the tee, but he’s accurate, and his strokes gained approach are 12th in this field. His putting hasn’t been good, but those aren’t the numbers that matter. This is a steal of a price in a no cut tournament.

Akshay Bhatia $7700

Same as Lucas Glover, as Bhatia’s stats fit this course well. He’s not long off the tee, but he’s very accurate and his approach numbers are great. He finished 35th at The Masters, and before that he finished 1st, 11th and 17th so he’s in great form. He missed the cut here last year, but I’ll depend on his current form.

Other Three: Christian Bezzuidenhout $7600, Brian Harman $7800, Scottie Scheffler $13,300

*There is no cut this week so everyone will see the weekend so I’m putting Scheffler in hoping he gets one more win before the birth of his new baby. Solid value on the mid to lower priced guys with McCarthy and Harman having upside to finish Top 10.
