Anduril 250 Track: Naval Base Coronado
The Naval Base Coronado street course is one of the most unique tracks on the NASCAR schedule, located on an active military installation in San Diego, California.
The temporary circuit is built on the base’s roads and airfield infrastructure, creating a flat, technical layout that combines long straightaways with tight braking zones and challenging corners. Unlike traditional road courses, there is very little elevation change, placing a premium on braking performance, acceleration, and track position.
The surface is made up of standard asphalt and concrete sections rather than purpose-built racing pavement, meaning grip levels can vary significantly throughout the lap.
Drivers must also navigate painted lines, transitions between surfaces, rail crossings, and bumps that can upset the car under braking.
Several drivers have already commented that this could become the toughest and most physically demanding road course on the NASCAR schedule because there are few opportunities to relax and mistakes will be heavily punished.
Road course specialists and drivers with strong sports car backgrounds should have an advantage, as precision and patience will be more important than outright speed.
The combination of a unique military setting, unforgiving layout, and constant technical challenges makes Naval Base Coronado one of the most anticipated and unpredictable races of the season.
Anduril 250 Top 10 Prediction: AJ Allmendinger -120
No track history here, so I’ll side with probably the most experienced road course racer in the field. He’s not in the greatest car, but who knows what car setup will work here.
Several drivers have said this course is going to be brutal to figure out, and I’ll a guy to finish Top 10 that has one of the best road course minds in the field. He already has two Top 10 finishes at road courses this season, I think he gets number three this week.
