Ireland vs France Betting Analysis
France travels over to Dublin on Monday night in what will be Ireland’s first game of the qualifying campaign so far, and one that should also present an electric atmosphere for the French over in the Irish capital this week.
However, this isn’t France’s first game of the qualifying campaign as they absolutely dismantled the Netherlands at home on Friday night via a 4-0 blowout.
The French blasted three goals past the Dutch inside just the opening 21 minutes of play, and were in complete cruise control from that point on, with Memphis Depay’s late penalty miss only adding insult to injury for the Dutch in that game.
Ireland have been surprisingly competitive against France over the last 15 years or so, with Thierry Henry’s ‘Handgate’ back in 2009 to put Ireland out of the World Cup plus their Euro 2016 Round of 16 battle being among the highlights of recent clashes.
However, the current line of France -1.5 is one the continental side have only covered in just one of their last six meetings against Ireland since the year 2000.
Les Blues Start Campaign Off On Right Note
With France winning the World Cup back in 2018 and almost winning it again in last year’s iteration, pulling a phenomenal comeback in the final against eventual winners Argentina late in that game, this current French side looks like they have no signs of slowing down if their recent result against the Netherlands on Friday is anything to go by.
However, Didier Deschamps will still no doubt be wary that France have failed to win any of their three most recent designated road trips away from home and will want to put that right ahead of this one.
Ireland Look To Youth Contingent
18-year-old Dubliner Evan Ferguson was one of the players of the night in Ireland’s 3-2 victory against Latvia in a friendly on Wednesday night.
Ferguson netted Ireland’s second goal in that match and his talent has caught the eye of superstar Kylian Mbappe who singled Ferguson out as Ireland’s biggest threat to France ahead of Monday’s clash.
Ireland vs France Expert Prediction
While Ireland have enjoyed a solid record historically against the French, the Irish are still in rebuild mode and face arguably the most formidable team on the planet right now in what will very likely descend into a damage-limitation game for the Irish at home on Monday.
While Ferguson did stand out against Latvia on Wednesday, France have more than enough tools to limit in this one and Ireland haven’t exactly been known for their goal-scoring prowess as it is across recent tournaments, with only Armenia scoring fewer goals than Ireland in their recent Nations League outing.
We’re taking Ireland – Team Total Goals – Under 0.5 in a game we expect the French to win to nil over in Dublin on Monday night.
