Ionikos vs Panathinaikos Betting Analysis
League-leaders Panathinaikos travel over to the Dimotiko Gipedo Neapolis stadium in the Athens suburbs to take on last-place Ionikos.
Another win for Panathinaikos would put them 11 points clear at the top of the table over second-place AEK Athens and 15 points clear of last season’s champions, Olympiacos. Panathinaikos has captured the second-most Greek domestic league championships, but have not done so since the 2009-10 season.
Ionikos, meanwhile, desperately needs a result in this one also as they sit rock-bottom of the league with just one win all season. However, with just three points separating the bottom five teams in the league, any type of result in this one would be enough to move them off the foot of the table.
Panathinaikos has never lost in this venue against Ionikos, but the bottom-dwellers have been able to earn draws in two of their last four matches here.
Lucky Shamrocks Boast Electric Road Form
Panathinaikos has been devastating on the road this season, winning all five of its games this year. Attacking midfielder Sebastian Palacios has been in especially deadly form, notching almost one goal per game away from home this season.
Even more impressive is the fact the ‘Shamrocks’ have allowed just two goals on the road all season to opponents and have the league’s best defensive xGA rating this year as well.
Defense Has Been A Major Concern For Ionikos
While the Greek Super League’s bottom team hasn’t exactly set the world alight on offense this season, netting less than one goal per game on average at home, it’s arguably been their defensive form that has seen them struggle so much this year.
Ionikos has allowed 1.85 goals per game this season to opponents, the second-worst mark in the league, and that’s a huge concern in what’s traditionally always been one of Europe’s lower-scoring leagues.
Ionikos vs Panathinaikos Prediction
Even at the current odds of -215 for a Panathinaikos victory here on Wednesday, that’s still the only way we could look in this one as Ionikos continues to struggle.
Ionikos has a crunch game on tap next week against second-from-bottom Levadiakos, and they’ll no doubt look to target that as priority No. 1 in terms of escaping from their current situation in the league this season.
