Brooklyn Nets vs Golden State Warriors Predictions

  • Brooklyn Nets -3 vs Golden State Warriors
  • Total: 220 Points
  • The Warriors are 8-0 against the spread when playing a team with a winning percentage of .601 or better.
  • The Nets are 15-5 against the spread in their last 20 home games.

The Golden State Warriors are in New York for a matchup against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night. Two squads who sit atop their respective divisions meet on the Barclays Center hardwood for the first time this season.

Steph Curry and his Golden State teammates enter this Tuesday evening matchup, having dropped the first game of a four-game road trip. On Sunday night, Terry Rozier stepped up for the home team Charlotte Hornets, scoring 20 points, all in the second half of the club’s 106-102 victory over the Warriors. Miles Bridges recorded 22 points while LaMelo Ball added 21. The Hornets win was the team’s third straight that followed a five-game skid.

Brooklyn’s leading scorer, Kevin Durant, scored 33 points in the Nets’ 120-96 victory over Oklahoma City on Sunday night. James Harden added 16 points and 13 assists for the Nets. The sixth man off the bench for the Nets was solid as he typically is. Patty Mills scored 29 points and made a career-high nine 3-pointers in the road win. Veteran frontcourter, Paul Millsap, missed the game for personal reasons. LaMarcus Aldridge connected for 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

The Warriors struggled in the final stanza on Sunday in Charlotte. The Hornets held off the Dubs in the last minute of the game, but Golden State’s mere 14 points in the fourth quarter were their undoing. Golden State still owns the best record in the league despite the Sunday loss as 5-point road favorites.

The Nets have won eight of their last nine games after starting the season 1-2. Durant and Stephen Curry enter Tuesday’s matchup named Player of the Week for their respective conferences. Durant scored 33-points in the Dubs victory and leads the Nets in scoring (29.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.4 rpg) this season.

As successful as the Nets have been since losing two of their first three games this season, the Nets’ second rotation has been negative for Brooklyn supporters. Head coach Steve Nash has been stubborn with the second rotation through the first 12 games of the season. Brooklyn has been slow out of the second and fourth quarter gate this season. The Nets’ second rotation without Durant and Harden have a -7.1 net rating. The second rotation that Nash has been using has been ineffective at the beginning of the second and fourth quarter.

The adjustment that point guard James Harden has made to the change in touch fouls and screens at the top of the circle has resulted in the NBA All-Star averaging 19.5 points per game and over nine assists per game.

Durant’s debut vs. his former team, Golden State, was this past February at Chase Center. Brooklyn went small with DeAndre Jordan out to an injury. The Nets’ small lineup found Durant starting at the stretch five and scoring 20 points while grabbing five rebounds. Kyrie Irving scored 23 points, while James Harden had 19 points, 16 assists. The Nets led by as much as 28 and registered a 131-110 win over the Warriors.

Kevin Durant told the media during Sunday’s post-game presser in Oklahoma City that he hasn’t and won’t buy into the hype of Warriors-Nets on Tuesday: “It’s a regular-season game,” Durant said. “We obviously want to go out there and win in front of our home crowd, but we’re not gonna put too much pressure on ourselves and call this a Finals matchup”

The Warriors don’t share Durant’s feeling about Tuesday night’s game in Brooklyn. Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors won’t say as much, but this squad is focused. They are the best team in the NBA to start the 2021-22 NBA season, according to Sports Illustrated’s Ben Stinar.

The Warriors just took down one of the three best teams in the east by 26-points. Curry finished the game with 40 points, four rebounds, and five assists, and he looks like he could win his third MVP award.” SI’s Stinar closed his column with, “The scariest part for fans of other teams is that the Warriors have not even had five-time All-Star Klay Thompson or 2020 second overall pick James Wiseman play in one game yet this season. Brooklyn Nets vs Golden State Warriors Injury Report

Warriors: Klay Thompson (Achilles) and James Wiseman (knee) have been ruled out.

Nets: Nic Claxton (illness), Paul Millsap (will miss Tuesday’s game for personal reasons), Day’Ron Sharpe (will miss Tuesday’s game for personal reasons), and Kyrie Irving (not with the team) have been ruled out.

Expect head coach Steve Kerr to adjust the second unit to match the Nets’ 2nd rotation’s size and skillset and throw in a twist that gives his team a scoring advantage when Durant and Harden are not on the court.

Kerr will position his players to make up ground or extend the team’s lead when the second rotation of the Nets vs. that of the Warriors are starting the second and fourth quarters on Tuesday night, resulting in a Golden State underdog win and cover.
