Brooklyn Nets at Phoenix Suns Analysis

Two of the favorites to play in the NBA Finals meet as the Brooklyn Nets travel to Phoenix for an inner-conference showdown with the Suns. The Nets opened their five game road trip with a 110-106 loss to the Golden State Warriors 119-99 on Sunday night.

Meanwhile the Suns handled business once again with a 115-100 home victory over the San Antonio Spurs. The Suns secured a 113-107 road victory over the Nets in their first meeting way back in late November.

Blazing Hot Suns

The Phoenix Suns come into this game with by far the best record in the NBA at 40-9. They have now won 10 straight as well as 13 of their past 14 games. What’s amazing is they have continued to come out on top despite playing without important players such as DeAndre Ayton, Jae Crowder and Cameron Payne.

In their last victory over the San Antonio Spurs Devin Booker led the team in scoring with 28 points. Chris Paul continued his torrid pace with a 20 point, 19 assist, 8 rebound performance. Frank Kaminsky, Cameron Payne and Dario Saric are all out indefinitely.

While DeAndre Ayton, Jae Crowder and Landry Shamet are all questionable for tonight’s tilt. The Suns are 3rd in scoring with 112.8 points per game and 7th in defensive scoring with 105 points allowed to their opponents.

Nets Continue to Falter

The Brooklyn Nets record dropped to 29-20 after losing their 4th straight game against the Warriors on Sunday. Injuries have really taken their toll, starting with Kevin Durant’s knee injury that has kept him from playing since January 15th.

James Harden has missed games sporadically and Kyrie Irving can’t play home games. In their loss to the Warriors Kyrie Irving was the Nets top performer with 32 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Kevin Durant is out indefinitely while James Harden and LaMarcus Aldridge are both questionable for Tuesday nights contest.

The Nets have the 5th ranked offense in the league that is scoring 111.8 points a game, while their defense ranks 18th with 110 points allowed per game to their rivals.

Brooklyn Nets at Phoenix Suns Prediction

The Phoenix Suns are 5.5 point favorites with an over/under of 229.5. The Suns are 6-3 against the spread in their last nine games, while the Nets are 5-12 against the spread in their last 12. Both teams come into this game missing key pieces that will slow the pace in this game.

The Suns are looking unstoppable and even when things aren’t going their way they somehow find a solution to come out on top. The Nets are going to struggle to contain this incredible duo of Devin Booker and Chris Paul. We are going to back Phoenix here regardless if James Harden plays or not.

Brooklyn Nets at Phoenix Suns Preview from GoldSheet

The Nets might have to ask the Biden administration for some federal aid with their current absent list long and distinguished, and perhaps even longer if James Harden can’t make the post tonight due to a hand injury.

We already know that there will be no KD (sprained MCL) or LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle) , and Joe Harris has been out since November, leaving Kyrie alone among the available big guns, and only because Brooklyn is on the road tonight.

Irving, has been fighting off opponents single-handedly lately like he’s James Bond, scoring 30+ in three of his last four outings, but the current 4-game straight up losing streak is also the longest of the season as HC Steve Nash returns to his former desert digs in the midst of a mini-slump.

The Suns aren’t quite at full strength, either, with late word that Denadre Ayton (ankle), Jae Crowder (wrist), and Landry Shamet (ankle) are likely out, but Devin Booker and Chris Paul remain with various other role players who have rarely skipped a beat as the current win straight up streak has grown to 10.

And even when Durant was available and scored 39 in the Nov. 27 matchup at Barclays Center, Phoenix still won and covered 113-107 when the Booker-Paul due combined for 52 points. Note that the Suns have played through various absences and are the only team to rank top three in both offense and defense, and in the current 10-game win streak have known when to hit the accelerator, outscoring foes an average of 32 points per 100 possessions in the 4th quarters (sheesh!) during the win streak. Also note current 7-3 Phoenix “under” trend. Play Phoenix and the Under.
