Phoenix Suns vs Minnesota Timberwolves Analysis

The Minnesota Timberwolves travel to Phoenix for a Western Conference clash against the Suns on Tuesday evening. The Suns improved to 5-1 on the season after a 124-109 home victory over the Houston Rockets on Sunday.

The Timberwolves are coming off a 107-98 loss in San Antonio against the Spurs. This is the first game of four head-to-head meetings in a head-to-head season series the Suns swept 3-0 last season. Tip-off is scheduled scheduled for 10:00 PM EST/7:00 PST as this is the second game of a TNT doubleheader.

Suns Look For 5th Straight Win

The Phoenix ran their winning streak to four games with a 124-109 victory over the Houston Rockets to push their record to 5-1 on the season. No surprise, Devin Booker was the games leading scorer with 30 points on 14 for 24 from the field and despite going only 1 for 7 from long distance.

Chris Paul led the Suns in dimes with a 15 assist, 10 point double-double. Cam Johnson chipped in with 19 points with a team high 7 rebounds. Phoenix is ironically 4th in the league in both scoring offense & scoring defense.

The Suns average 118.7 points per game while ranking 1st in field goal percentage at 49.3% from the floor. On defense they allow an average of 106.3 points a game while ranking 22nd in rebounding.

DeAndre Ayton will miss this game with an ankle injury he suffered back on October 28th. Jae Crowder hasn’t played yet this season as he has issues with the organization and has requested a trade.

Talented Timberwolves Hope To Take Next Step

The Minnesota Timberwolves record dropped to 4-3 on the season after a 107-98 loss on the road in San Antonio. In a weird scheduling scenario the Timberwolves have already played the Spurs three times and lost two of those games.

Karl Anthony-Towns scored a game high 26 points on 10 of 19 from the field while snagging 11 rebounds. The newly acquired Rudy Gobert led the team in rebounds with 12 boards while Anthony Edwards was the assist man with 6 dimes.

It was a humbling loss considering the Spurs played without starters Devin Vassell & Jeremy Sochan and reserves Josh Richardson & Joshua Primo. They were out-rebounded 52-45 despite the addition of Gobert making them the 3rd best rebounding team in the league.

Minnesota is average when it comes to scoring and scoring defense as they ironically rank 15th in both categories. They score 113.1 a game while allowing 115.1 per game. There isn’t much to report in the injury department in this contest.

Phoenix Suns vs Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction

The Phoenix Suns enter this contest as 3.5 point home favorites with a total set at 227.5. The Timberwolves have ton of talent and have the new twin tower look with Anthony-Towns and Gobert. The absence of Ayton for Phoenix has me immediately looking in their direction.

The Suns are middle of the road in points and rebounds against opposing bigs but will be thin down low without Ayton. KAT point prop is set at 22.5, he has averaged 21.3 points a game and cleared that total in only 3 of 7 games.

However he did land on 21 twice and his usage has been up recently. In the first three games of the season he took 10, 25 & 9 shots. He has taken 14+ shots in each of his last four games while averaging 23.8 points a game.

With Gobert anchored in the paint for rebounding purposes KAT should get plenty of scoring opportunities against the thin Suns front court. Looks like we’ll be playing a Karl Anthony-Towns prop for the first time this season.

Prediction: Karl Anthony-Towns Over 22.5 Points -110
