Cleveland Guardians
The Guardians are 2-8 in their last ten games at Yankee Stadium, including a 3-2 loss last night. Guardians’ starter Luis L. Ortiz ranks in the bottom-25th percentile among pitchers in expected ERA, expected batting average allowed, average exit velocity, chase rate, walk rate, barrel rate and hard-hit rate. Ortiz faced the Yankees in Cleveland at the end of April and allowed four runs on five hits with five walks in 4.1 innings.

Clarke Schmidt has been solid for the Yanks all season. In his last start, he held the Angels scoreless through 6.0 innings while allowing four hits and just one walk. In four starts at Yankee Stadium this season, Schmidt has a 3.18 ERA with just one home run allowed in 22.2 innings pitched.
The Yankees are hitting .254 against right-hand pitching this season (No. 11 in MLB) with a .336 on-base percentage (No. 3) and a 125 wRC+ (No. 2).
The Yankees’ current roster is hitting .333 in 54 plate appearances against Ortiz with a sky-high 22.2-percent walk rate and a .438 weighted on-base average. Paul Goldschmidt is 7-for-10 with two doubles and two walks. Aaron Judge is 2-for-5 with a triple and four walks.

Devin Williams (one run, two hits, 30 pitches on Tuesday) continues to be a roller coaster in the Yankees’ bullpen, so we’re going to focus on the first half of this game where the Bronx Bombers should enjoy a healthy advantage.
Schmidt ranks in the top-25th percentile among pitchers in average exit velocity and hard-hit rate. On a night where conditions are going to be hitter-friendly, his ability to limit hard contact should help the Yankees get off to a nice start in this contest.
