Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Analysis
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox go head-to-head in second of four games from the beautiful and historic Fenway Park on Friday evening. The evil empire came out on top last night with 6-5 victory on the road. With the win, New York now owns a commanding 15-game lead over Boston in the American League East.
Devers Is Cole’s Daddy
Rafael Devers smacked another two home runs off of Gerrit Cole with 5 RBI but it wasn’t enough as the Yankees won 6-5. That’s six home runs for Devers against Cole in his careeer.
Rookie Josh Winckowski had his worst outing of his career with six runs allowed on six hits and five walks in only five innings. The Sox lost a game in the standings and now sit 15 games behind New York. The Boston lineup now ranks 8th in both OPS and runs scored.
Another rookie starter takes the mound for Boston as Connor Seabold draws the start. Seabold has had his struggles with eight runs allowed in 8.2 innings resulting in an 8.31 ERA and 2.08 WHIP. The Red Sox bullpen better be ready as Seabold hasn’t made it past four innings yet in his career.
Bronx Bombers Prevail Yet Again
The New York Yankees improved on the league best 60-23 record with a 6-5 victory at Fenway Park. Josh Donaldson hit a grand slam and Aaron Hicks added a solo bomb. Gerrit Cole pitched six innings and allowed five runs on five hits and three walks. Cole is going to start walking Devers as it’s clear he has his number.
The Bronx Bombers lineup is a juggernaut that ranks top five across the board. The talented southpaw Nestor Cortes gets the nod on Friday from Fenway. Cortes is 7-3 with a 2.44 ERA and 0.95 WHIP on the season. He hasn’t pitched against Boston this season but held the Guardians to one run in six innings of work last time out.
Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Prediction
The Red Sox can do damage against lefties like Cortes but this is going to be an uphill battle with Seabold on the mound. He was hammered by a potent Blue Jays lineup that is similar to that of the Yankees. The rookie hurler will have no easy outs and is backed by a mediocre bullpen at best.
I’m going to take a shot on the Yankees team total over 5.5 runs. Fenway Park is obviously a hitters’ paradise and the Yankees will have opportunities for runs throughout all nine innings.
Prediction: New York Yankees Team Total OVER 5.5 Runs (+100 at DraftKings)
