Baltimore Orioles vs Toronto Blue Jays Analysis
The Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles will play the second of three games from beautiful Camden Yards on Tuesday evening. The Orioles prevailed in 7-4 wire-to-wire victory last night.
The Blue Jays will look to even things up and force a rubber match on Wednesday. Baltimore will send the rookie righty Kyle Bradish to the hill, while Toronto ace Alek Manoah gets the nod. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM EST/4:05 PST.
Manoah & Jays Look For Bounce Back
The Toronto Blue Jays record fell to 60-49 after losing 7-4 in Baltimore last night. Yusei Kikuchi was lit up once again with five runs allowed across only five innings while walking three and giving up three home runs.
Matt Chapman continued to assault Jordan Lyles, going 2 for 3 and hitting his 22nd bomb of the season. Toronto still has control of the top Wild Card spot with a 1.5 game lead on Seattle & Tampa Bay and a three game lead over Cleveland.
This Jays lineup is an absolute wagon as they rank 5th in runs scored, 6th in homeruns, 1st in batting average, 3rd in OPS and 4th in wRC+. However they have scored four runs or less in six of their last eight games.
Alek Manoah will look to continue his strong campaign where he has allowed only 41 runs in 132 innings while striking out 129. Additionally, he has an xERA of 3.24 and an expected slugging percentage of .342. Meaning hitters are making weak contact and struggling to score runs against the dominant righty.
Orioles Continue to Stack W’s
The Baltimore Orioles drew first blood in this series with a 7-4 victory where they took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Four different sluggers blasted homeruns including Anthony Santander (20), Ryan Mountcastle(15), Austin Hayes (13) and Ramon Urias(12).
Jordan Lyles did his part with 5.2 innings of two run baseball. At 57-52 the O’s are only 1.5 games away from a Wild Card spot despite being sellers at the deadline. They are now an impressive 11-6 since the All-Star break.
They are still well below average offensively as they rank 20th in runs scored, 22nd in OPS and 23rd in batting average. Kyle Bradish toes the rubber coming off two strong outings where he allowed only three runs across 10 combined innings of work.
However he is 1-4 with a staggering 6.55 ERA and 1.65 WHIP on the season. Additionally he has a bloated 5.52 xERA and .468 expected slugging percentage, meaning opponents are are not only making contact but driving in runs. The veteran lefty pitched only four innings in his last outing while allowing two runs on three hits.
Baltimore Orioles vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction
The Toronto Blue Jays are favored with a money line of -170, while the Baltimore Orioles sit at +145 with a total of 8.5. We cashed on yesterday’s article for this game on the over and that’s the direction we will be looking in again tonight.
The total has gone over in 15 of the Blue Jays last 20 when they play on the road against a team with a winning record. The total has also been cleared in five of Baltimores last six games. More importantly, we have had five head-to-head meetings between these squads with totals of 11, 12, 12, 13 & 13.
The Jays should feast on Bradish and the hot Baltimore bats should do their part. Over is the play in this series until these teams prove otherwise.
