Toronto Blue Jays vs Baltimore Orioles Analysis

The Baltimore Orioles look to leave Toronto with a three game sweep over the Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays lost their third straight game as they were doubled up 4-2 against Baltimore last night.

At 61-55 Baltimore currently sits only a half game behind Toronto for the all important third and final Wild Card spot. Ross Stripling will make his return to the Jays from the IL with hopes to salvage the final game of the series.

Meanwhile the O’s turn to the righty Austin Voth to complete the sweep of Toronto. First pitch is slated for 3:07 PM EST/12:07 PST.

Bats Run Cold For Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays came out of the break hot with wins in eight of ten games while building a lead as the top Wild Card team.

Since then they have lost nine of twelve games, leaving them with only a half game lead over the Baltimore Orioles for the third and final Wild Card spot.

The usual potent Toronto lineup has run ice cold with only nine runs scored in their last five games. Alek Manoah was tagged for 4 runs in 5.2 innings in yesterday’s 4-2 loss. Vladimir Guerrero Jr got the Jays off on the right foot with a two run blast out of the two-hole in the first inning.

However that proved to be the only scoring Toronto would do for the entirety of the game. Ross Stripling rejoins the

Jays rotation after not pitching since July 30th due to a hip injury. On the season he 5-3 with a 3.16 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. Stripling can’t be expected to pitch much past four or five innings at best as he returns to form.

Orioles Continue Wildcard Pursuit

The Baltimore Orioles have somehow improved after selling on one of their top overall players in Trey Mancini and their closer in Jorge Lopez at the deadline.

Yesterday’s 4-2 victory was their 10th victory in their last 14 games. Cedric Mullins and Andy Rutschman both hit solo-blasts and Ramon Urias went 2 for 4. Dean Kremer gave up a two run blast to the #2 hitter Vladimir Guerrero in the first inning.

However he never looked back and ended up victorious with only two runs allowed across seven innings of work. The Orioles are breathing down the Jays necks with only a half game between them for a playoff spot.

Former Washington National Austin Voth is 3-1 with a 5.34 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in his first season with Baltimore. He held the Tampa Bay Rays to two runs across 5.1 innings in his last outing. The Orioles will hope for a similar performance that could result in a sweep and leapfrog of Toronto in the standings.

Toronto Blue Jays vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays are favored yet again with a -175 money line, while the Baltimore Orioles sit at +150 with a total of 9.

Last night the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles fell under the total the first time in 8 head-to-head meetings this season. These teams combined for double digits in their first seven games.

We rode that trend, going 3-1 to the over in our last four articles covering this series. You shouldn’t automatically abandon a successful trend after the first time it fails you.

Sometimes I like play it until I drop two straight. Yesterday landed on six runs and the starting pitching was a notch better than what tonight has to offer. Voth is more than hittable and the Toronto bats could explode at the blink of an eye.

Stripling won’t go deep in his first game back from injury which will expose an inconsistent Blue Jay bullpen. Let’s cash another Baltimore/Toronto over ticket!!

Prediction: Over 9 Runs Scored -100
