Truist Championship Course: Quail Hollow Club
The Truist Championship heads to Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, one of the premier ball striking tests on the PGA Tour.
This par-71 layout stretches over 7,500 yards and demands both length and precision, especially on its long par-4s where players are often hitting mid-to long irons into firm, well-guarded greens.
The course has a classic feel with tree-lined fairways, rolling terrain, and strategically placed bunkers that punish misses.
Quail Hollow is known for rewarding elite drivers of the golf ball, but it’s really a second-shot course where approach play separates contenders.
The greens are fast and undulating, requiring confident putting and smart positioning. Players who consistently hit greens in regulation and avoid short-sided misses will have a clear advantage.
The closing stretch, famously known as the “Green Mile” (holes 16–18), is one of the toughest finishes on Tour and often decides the tournament.
With water in play and long, demanding approaches under pressure, it’s a brutal test late in the round. Expect a strong field, a challenging setup, and a winning score that reflects how difficult Quail Hollow can be when it plays firm and fast
Truist Championship: Players That Can Trip You Up
Rory McIlroy comes in as the betting favorite, but there are real questions around his focus and form. He hasn’t played since the Masters, and at this stage of his career, majors seem to be the clear priority.
Even before that win, his results were shaky—46th and a withdrawal. With potential rust and a possible letdown spot, it wouldn’t be shocking if he doesn’t crack the Top 10. At this price, that’s enough to stay away.
Chris Gotterup is still being priced off early-season success, but the recent form tells a different story. He has just one Top 15 finish in his last eight starts, with finishes of 38th, 25th, and 24th in his last three.
His approach play has dipped, and his scrambling has followed—meaning missed greens are turning into dropped shots instead of saves. That’s a dangerous trend to ignore. He’s a fade at this number.
Tommy Fleetwood continues to look overpriced given his recent trajectory. He’s finished 23rd, 52nd, and 33rd in his last three starts, and his lack of distance off the tee was exposed last week.
His approach and around-the-green numbers have also slipped during that stretch. When multiple parts of the game are trending down, it’s tough to justify backing him at a premium price. This feels like another fade spot.
Truist Championship: DraftKings Darlings
Aldrich Potgieter ($6,700) brings elite distance, which plays perfectly on a long layout like this. He used that strength to finish 14th last week and backed it up with a 25th the week prior.
When he’s keeping it in play, the birdie chances pile up quickly. At this price in a no-cut format, his power gives him real upside over four rounds.
Alex Fitzpatrick ($6,800) is one of the more underpriced plays on the board given his current form. He won on the European Tour in late March, followed it up with a Zurich win alongside his brother, and just finished 9th last week.
He’s accurate off the tee and strong with his irons, a combination that travels well week to week. With four guaranteed rounds, his consistency and confidence make him a great value.
Alex Smalley ($7,500) is riding a hot stretch powered by elite iron play. He finished 7th last week and posted 14th and 21st the two starts before that, showing consistent top-end form.
He’s not long off the tee, but it hasn’t mattered with how dialed in his approaches have been. If the irons stay hot, he has another top-20 finish in him at this price.
Rest of Lineup: Adam Scott $8900, Ludvig Aberg $9600, Cameron Young $10,100
