THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson Betting Preview
Back to business as usual this week in this 156-man field set to do battle at TPC Craig Ranch. The course will be renovated and re-grassed after the tournament, but some renovations have been made early including the addition of new tee boxes on five holes adding 155 yards to the overall length of the track.
Now, TPC Craig Ranch measures at more than 7,550 yards while is certainly longer than average on Tour, especially when you consider there are only three par-5s on this par 71.
Despite the length, the course has measured as either the first or second-easiest par 71 played all season. Much of that can be attributed to players hitting both the fairway and greens at a much higher clip than average.
Uncoincidentally, a low score is needed to win this event where 23-under has been the winning number each of the last two seasons. That alone can keep the favorite from running away with this event.
Scheffler is that man and stands at less than 3-1 with the rest of the field completely wide-open after that. This is certainly a week to take a couple of chances on longshots, especially if you consider the without-Scheffler market, assuming those are offered this week.
The weather this week looks mostly good. Thursday is near perfect as temperatures touch the low-80s with light wind (5-10 mph), and no rain in sight.
Friday is looking like the iffiest day in terms of thunderstorms rolling through. From there, winds only slightly increase through the weekend at 10-15 mph so no reason to think low scores won’t continue again this year.
THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson Predictions
Winner: Byeong Hun An +2500 | Top-10 +280 | Top-20 +135
Since The Open Championship last July, An has had an up-and-down run, but he is trending back up right now.
Beginning with The Open Championship, An finished in the Top-25 in seven of eight tournaments culminating with a win at the Genesis Championship on the DP World Tour in October.
As the clock rolled into 2025, An had a slow start with just one Top-25 in his first six starts, but has three over his last five starts including a Signature Event, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and a major at the Masters.
Besides trending in the right direction, An seems to love this track as he finished T14 here in 2023 and T4 last year. He also had one previous start back in 2017 and finished T5.
Oh, and An bombs it which will certainly help him around this newly-extended track.
Winner: Ryo Hisastune +7500 | Top-10 +600 | Top-20 +260
If you don’t know his name now, you will learn it in short time. After his rookie season last year, Hisastune has is figuring it out on Tour in his sophomore season, especially of late. He missed the cut in four out of his first seven starts this season, but has made the cut in five straight events including four Top-20s.
Hisatsune’s iron game has been steadily improving. In the calendar year 2024, Ryo gained strokes on approach in less than half of his starts, 12 of 29, while this year it has taken a dramatic turnaround.
He started the season losing strokes in four of his first five starts, but has gained strokes on approach in seven of eight starts since.
Ryo is limited in experience around any track at this stage of his career, but he did have a high finish, a T13, here last year.
