Texas Children’s Houston Open Course: Memorial Park Golf Course

When googling “Memorial Park”, just know that there is this course, and then a really bad course with the same name in the small town of Newcastle, IN which is about an hour away from me.

Not the same course, but it would be amazing to watch the PGA Tour roll into Newcastle, IN and play a tourney on that course.

The PGA’s version of Memorial Park is a nice course to play a couple of weeks before The Masters as it has a couple of similarities, one of which is the steep roll-offs on the greens that create chips and up-and-downs similar to the holes at Augusta.

This is a long Par 70 at +7400 yards with five Par 3’s, three Par 5’s and one short, drivable Par 4. The fairways are wide, and the rough is fairly deep, but nothing these guys can’t deal with so guys will be swinging pretty hard off the tee to try and take on this long Par 70.

There isn’t water or many bunkers, and the greens are pretty big, and it looks like they’ll be soft enough to get the ball to stop on even with long approaches.

The wind looks to be non-existent on Thursday with it picking tup to 10-15 MPH the rest of the week so I expect the winning score to be close to -16, which was last years winning score.

Texas Children’s Houston Open Field

It’s pretty top-heavy with Scheffler, Clark, and Zalatoris teeing it up here followed by a dropoff down to guys like Theegala, Finau, Day, and Si Woo Kim.

Then it drops quite a bit by some guys who are very motivated to get a win here. Don’t get me wrong, the big-name guys want to win, but they’re looking to The Masters and this is a bit of a tune up.

There are plenty of guys who would love to get a win to secure their Tour Card or get an invite to other tournaments, and sometimes those are the most focused guys in the field so I won’t be surprised if we have another long shot winner this week.

Strokes Gained Last Three Months (PGA Tour Only)

Scottie Scheffler +3.23
Wyndham Clark +2.15
Sahith Theegala +1.86
Si Woo Kim +1.51
Jason Day +1.41
Will Zalatoris +1.38
Tom Hoge +1.31
Alex Noren +1.30
Doug Ghim +1.16
Beau Hossler +1.06

Texas Children’s Houston Open: Players That Can Trip You Up

Scottie Scheffler

He’s +260 on DK to win the tournament, and while he’s coming off of two straight wins, he would have to win this tournament or at worst finish Top 4 to return value.

He’s -300 against Wyndham Clark in a head-to-head so he’s insanely expensive this week, and I don’t see the motivation for him this week.

He had neck issues in his last tournament, and let’s be honest…he’s just getting ready for The Masters.

I wonder if he won’t swing as hard this week to protect his neck, and I think there are a lot of players more motivated to win this week than him. I won’t be using him in DFS, fantasy leagues, or any bets this week.

Tony Finau

I think people will be looking to play on Finau because it’s a weak field, and he’s the defending Champion here, but he’s been terrible this year.

His putting is -0.32 strokes gained this year, and he’s finished MC and 45th the last two weeks, and he still only has one finish better than 13th this year.

He’s priced as a top 7 golfer this week, and I just can’t get there with him this year. His driving distance and approach accuracy is good, but he hasn’t shown that he can put it together over four rounds. He’s a bet against still.

Taylor Moore

I think he’ll be a popular pick this week as he’s finished 31st and 12th the last two weeks, and he hasn’t missed the cut this year, but he’s missed the cut here the last two years and maybe there’s just something about this course that doesn’t fit well with him.

He’s 70-1 to win, and +250 to finish Top 20 which are great prices, but I can’t invest in him because he’s missed the cut both of the last two years in pretty weak fields.

Texas Children’s Houston Open: DraftKings Darlings

Andrew Novak $6900

Novak wasn’t good at the beginning of the season, but he’s finished top 17 in four out of the last five tournaments, and he’s been a great Draftkings Darlings. In the last seven weeks, his numbers in all categories have shot through the roof and he’s 8th in the field in strokes gained in this field. Great value on Novak.

Mark Hubbard $7000

Pretty eash pick here as Hubbard has made every cut this season as he’s 8/8. He doesn’t have a ton of upside as he only has one Top 10 finish this season, but this is a great price on someone who always gets us points on the weekend. His approach numbers and putting numbers are solid, and in a weak field, he should see the weekend.

Joel Dahmen $7100

Dahmen’s numbers aren’t mind-blowing this season, but he’s made the cut in four out of the last five tournaments, and he’s finished 9th and 5th the last two years here. Love
the course history here at a low price.

Final Lineup: Andrew Novak $6900 Mark Hubbard $7000 Joel Dahmen $7100 Mackenzie Hughes $7800 Si Woo Kim $9700 Wyndham Clark $10900

Questions for Nick on the show

-What will the line be on Scheffler v Rahm at The Masters?

-Who will end the year with more FedEx Cup Points? Justin Thomas or Sahith Theegala? Right now JT is 29th, Theegala is 5th

Grayson Murray has a win this year. Will he end the year with more, less or the same  amount of wins as Rory McIlroy?
