Utah State vs Connecticut Betting Analysis
Utah State open up their 2022 campaign on Saturday against UConn looking to build on a season which saw them rank 24th in the polls nationally and coming off a blowout statement win over San Diego State in the Mountain West title game as well.
For Connecticut, their season was much more downbeat, finishing up with a disappointing 1-11 record overall and ranking 124th on scoring defense last year also.
The two teams have met only once before in competitive action, all the way back in 2001, with Utah State recording a 38-31 victory over the Huskies in that one.
Road Form A Concern For Connecticut
While Connecticut’s overall record last season was poor, they at least managed to win a game in Hartford. On the road however, the Huskies went 0-6 last year, including a 45-0 beatdown against Fresno State in their opening road game.
One positive for Connecticut however, is the fact they’re returning 12 starters to the team this year, with six on offense and six on defense, so we should at least see a little more consistency from this team moving forward.
Aggies Strong At Home To Start Season
Utah State have been red-hot at home in previous season openers, going on a current 12 game win streak against non-conference opponents inside Maverik Stadium and are 43-17 in their last 60 home games here overall as well.
With the Aggies returning one of the most experienced offensive lines in the nation this season, expect this team to be a tough out in any game being played in Logan.
Utah State vs Connecticut Prediction
This is an extremely hard game to predict on Saturday, but we nevertheless see some small value in backing the Huskies in this one.
Connecticut were extremely porous defensively last year, but were actually slightly better on the road than they were at home, giving up an average of almost 30 passing yards per game less to opponents than in Hartford.
Similarly, their red zone opponent scoring percentage was about 10% less on the road than at home as well, so we may well see a better effort from Jim Mora’s men traveling away from home in this one.
Take Connecticut +27 for small stakes on Saturday as they look to keep things relatively close against Utah State in Logan this weekend.
