Former defensive coordinator Brian Newberry replaces Ken Niumatalolo at the helm in Annapolis, and the Midshipmen have brought in Grant Chesnut to run the offense.

Chesnut was the former offensive coordinator at Kennesaw State, who had one of the best rushing attacks at the FCS level. What kind of wrinkles will he be able to introduce?

The Midshipmen went 4-8 straight-up last season, but were 7-5 against the spread including three-point losses to Air Force and Notre Dame.

Navy’s offensive line returns four starters from last year, while the Irish lost four of their top-five producers on the defensive line. That could be a problem.

Notre Dame Football Preview

The Irish landed one of the country’s best quarterbacks in the transfer portal in Sam Hartman from Wake Forest.

Hartman threw for over 7,900 yards over the last two seasons in the ACC with 77 touchdown passes and 26 interceptions.

Hartman will be tasked with rebuilding an Irish offense that lost its offensive coordinator, Tommy Rees, to Alabama and an All-American tight end in Michael Mayer to the NFL Draft.

Navy vs Notre Dame Week 0 Prediction

Keep an eye on the weather and field conditions at Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Early forecasts are calling for light rain through out Saturday. Notre Dame won last year’s contest 35-32 in Baltimore.

Considering Navy usually runs a slow-tempo offense and Notre Dame usually has a pretty stout defense, this has been a very high-scoring series over the last decade.
