One of the main headline acts for this weekend’s undisputed showdown between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury in Riyadh will be Joe Cordina’s defense of his IBF junior lightweight strap against Belfast’s Anthony ‘The Apache’ Cacace on Saturday.

Cacace comes into this one off a run of six straight victories, all by decision, but faces a huge step up in Wales’ undefeated champion Joe Cordina over in the desert this weekend.

Joe Cordina comes into this fight as the substantial -575 favorite, with Anthony Cacace coming back as a +400 underdog.

Cordina Looks To Bring Order To A Fractured Division

With currently four recognized world champions down in the junior lightweight division, it’s fast become one of the most fractured divisions in the entire sport, especially since former unified champion Shakur Stevenson made the move up to lightweight last year.

Joe Cordina has stated his intention to fix that, calling out the other champions in the division, but with so many various promotors involved, plus the fact that the 130lb division isn’t one of the glamour divisions in the sport also, the money might be a major issue moving forward in terms of bringing all of these different champions to the table.

Cacace will likely be no easy out for Cordina on Saturday either, having just one loss on his resume to date, a close, competitive fight against Martin Joseph Ward in London back in 2017 that many observers felt he just about edged.

This is a technically high-level matchup on Saturday with both fighters having an extremely good judgment of range, and employing solid jabs to work behind also.

The issue for Cacace however is that Cordina is just that bit sharper in pretty much every department, able to exit the pocket that split second quicker and launch that right hook a millisecond faster also, and those slight edges are likely what’s going to be the difference maker in this fight.

Joe Cordina did show in his last fight against Edward Vasquez that he can be vulnerable when he’s not completely switched on in fights, with Vazquez catching him multiple times with that hard left hook of his over in Monaco at the back end of last year, but with this fight being on an undisputed Tyson Fury/Oleksandr Usyk card, I’m expecting the best version of Joe Cordina to show up in this one, and a fighter who should come out on top against a rugged challenger in Anthony Cacace.
