Vasyl Lomachenko vs George Kambosos Jr. Betting Analysis

One of the most gifted fighters of his generation returns to action this weekend in Perth, Australia as former P4P kingpin Vasyl Lomachenko looks to climb back up to the summit of the sport one last time against former undisputed champion himself George Kambosos Jr. on Saturday.

Lomachenko comes off a razor-thin decision loss to Devin Haney last year, a result that visibly upset him in the dressing room after the fight as at 36 years old, the ‘Matrix’ only has so many opportunities left of becoming the undisputed lightweight king.

George Kambosos Jr. is another fighter looking to get back on top after two defeats from his last three fights overall, with many people feeling it should be three defeats as well, with Maxi Hughes seemingly doing enough to win their fight in Oklahoma last year. However, George Kambosos Jr. is still nonetheless a top-tier fighter in the sport when on his game, with those two recent losses for him only coming against Devin Haney.

Vasyl Lomachenko comes into this one as the sizeable -700 favorite, with George Kambosos Jr. coming back at a +440.

The Matrix Reloaded

Despite being a three-weight world champion and multiple-time Olympic gold medalist also, it’s clear that Vasyl Lomachenko wants that undisputed recognition at lightweight to finally cap off what’s been an extraordinary career to date.

Perhaps this current run at 135lb for him will be third time lucky as he came so close back in 2020 against Teofimo Lopez, unifying three of the four belts prior to that fight, and coming very close to unseating Devin Haney for all the belts last year as well, with many observers feeling he did enough to win that fight.

Whatever the case may be, this really is the last chance saloon for Lomachenko right now at 36 years of age, and with the belts fractured currently since Haney’s departure up to 140lb, a win here on Saturday will be an absolute must for him.

Spartan Mindset For George Kambosos Jr.

Vasyl Lomachenko isn’t the only fighter on Saturday who will view this weekend’s matchup as must-win territory, with Geroge Kambosos Jr. looking to reignite his fading standing in the lightweight division with a standout performance ahead of this one.

Saturday’s opponent may well bring out the best in ‘Ferocious’ as well, with both Devin Haney and Maxi Hughes proving too elusive for the Australian native, as Kambosos Jr. arguably does his best work when facing a more aggressive fighter where he can employ his high-level counter-attacking ability.

Lomachenko will surely provide that pocket-centric fight that Kambosos Jr. yearns for in this one. However, whether even George’s high-level counter-punching ability can deal with Lomachenko’s angles is another matter.

Vasyl Lomachenko vs George Kambosos Jr. Expert Prediction

This is a quality-style matchup on Saturday as both fighters like to stay relatively close in engagements, which should lead to plenty of opportunities for both on the inside in this one.

Vasyl Lomachenko has tended to feast on overly aggressive opponents in the past, or opponents who fail to keep their distance in fights, with even recent opponents Masayoshi Nakatani and Richard Commey tasting the canvas hard in their bouts.

While Kambosos Jr. is an incredibly fluid counter-puncher, he won’t have been in there with a fighter who employs quite as many angles as Lomachenko does, and while the Australian warrior has never been stopped over his career so far, we know Lomachenko doesn’t stop opponents necessarily through power, but by whittling away their confidence as they consistently get lit up on the inside against him.

While Kambosos Jr. may well survive this fight, at +360 we see those odds as far too wide in this one for a Lomachenko stoppage, and are happy to take a shot with the KO/TKO on Saturday for Lomachenko to close the show early Down Under.

Vasyl Lomachenko vs George Kambosos Jr. Prediction: Vasyl Lomachenko by KO/TKO (+360)
