PFL San Diego Predictions

Liz Carmouche -230 vs Viviane Araujo +175

Carmouche has put together an outstanding career, but at 42 years old she’s beginning to show signs of slowing down. The wrestling is still effective, but the takedowns aren’t nearly as explosive or relentless as they once were. She still carries respectable power, but the dominant performances have become less common.

Araujo struggled in the opening round of her PFL debut, but once she settled in she completely took over against Shanna Young. She owns solid takedown defense and has enough striking volume to compete with Carmouche on the feet.

This feels much closer than the betting line suggests. Carmouche is still the rightful favorite because of her experience and overall game, but there’s not enough value at this price to justify a wager.

Carmouche is the pick, but it’s a pass from a betting perspective.

Alexander Shabliy -560 vs Alfie Davis +370

I’m stunned by this betting line.

Shabliy is an outstanding fighter and absolutely deserves to be favored, but this number feels far too wide. The reality is that Shabliy lost to Nurmagomedov, while Davis owns a victory over him. Both fights were competitive, but Davis showed he knows how to win close rounds.

One of Davis’ biggest strengths is understanding how to score with the judges. Whenever he has a big moment, he capitalizes on it, shows emotion, and leaves a lasting impression. That kind of fight IQ matters in competitive decisions.

Stylistically, I don’t think there’s a massive gap on the feet. Davis’ striking is much closer to Shabliy’s level than the odds imply, his wrestling is solid, and he defends well in most positions.

Shabliy is still the most likely winner, but laying this kind of price is difficult to justify. If you’re looking for value, a sprinkle on Davis by decision is the much more attractive betting angle.

PFL San Diego Main Event: AJ McKee -148 vs Salamat Isbulaev +124

Isbulaev is undefeated and has been incredibly impressive so far. He brings an aggressive, violent style built around strong wrestling and constant forward pressure. Expect him to come out fast and try to overwhelm McKee early before McKee has a chance to settle into the fight.

The biggest question is what happens if he can’t get the finish. Nearly all of Isbulaev’s fights have ended in the first round, so we really don’t know how his cardio will hold up if this becomes a long, drawn-out battle.

That’s where McKee has the edge. He’s fought a much higher level of competition throughout his career, has championship experience, and we’ve repeatedly seen him maintain his pace deep into fights. If he survives the early storm, his experience and conditioning should take over.

The lean is McKee, but expect Isbulaev to make things interesting early.
