THE PLAY: Total Over 9.5 (-110) Aaron Nola (RHP), Miles Mikolas (RHP) Must Start
3% Phillies/Nationals Over (6:45 ET): After a 5-0 run to the Under, we finally saw a Nationals game go Over the total last night. I use the word “finally” because we’re talking about a Nats team that leads all of MLB in scoring (5.36 runs per game) while simultaneously allowing the third most runs per game (5.24). Here at home, they’re allowing 5.95 rpg. Is it any wonder than that this team has the 2nd highest Over percentage (62.3%) in all games this season including - by far - #1 (71.1%) at home? Last night’s Over was the byproduct of a spectacular bullpen implosion that saw five different relievers combine to allow 11 runs over the final two innings.
Washington actually led 5-3 going into the eighth inning last night. They gave away the lead in the top of the inning, but quickly regained it and were up 8-6 going into the ninth. That is when disaster struck as in eight runs scored by the Phillies in the top of the ninth. This is a Washington bullpen with the fourth highest ERA (4.93) in all of baseball. I know that Philadelphia’s offensive production typically tails off on the road, but it sure didn’t last night. Not only will the Phillies once again get their cracks at the beleaguered Nats’ bullpen, but Miles Mikolas is starting for the home team. Whether a traditional starter, or a bulk reliever, Mikolas has been awful this season (5.44 FIP). Especially here at home where he has a 6.37 ERA.
But Washington’s league-leading offense should be able to answer as they’ll go up against Aaron Nola, who is simply not what he once was. Nola did manage to make it through five innings with allowing just three runs his last time out. But that game (vs. the Mets) still ended up a 6-4 final (Phillies lost). Nola has allowed 4 HRs over his L2 starts and now has a 5.71 ERA/1.48 WHIP/4.64 FIP for the season. 3% Phillies/Nationals Over (Play at 9.5 or lower)

After spending the previous decade at Covers Experts, Bryan Power has wasted little time establishing himself here at WagerTalk. A consistent winner since first emerging on the scene back in 2011, Power didn't have a single losing calendar year in his first decade as a pro handicapper! In April & May of this year (2022), he went on an amazing 154-99-2 (+$41,322) with all plays! October is when he truly made his mark at WT, at one point cashing 22 of 26 plays (85%).
Power handicaps football (both NFL and college), basketball (NBA and college), MLB, Soccer (most major European leagues), and the UFC. He uses a personal set of power ratings, combined with situational handicapping, to make his selections. Multiple bets per day across multiple sports are the norm. Client plays are rated 3%-5%.
