THE PLAY: Kansas City Chiefs -8.5 (-110)
Let's be honest here, the Chiefs gave that Denver game away. They led 24-13 in the fourth quarter and lost 28-24, with 11 penalties for 105 yards. If you watched that game, Kansas City beat itself. Now they come home angry, against a 2-6 team without its best receiver. Give me the Chiefs -8.5.
The bottom line is Kansas City should score in the 30s and hold the Jets under 20. The Chiefs are 3-0 at home, they allow 18.7 points a game (4th in the league), and they're +5 in turnovers. The Jets are 1-6 in their last seven, and their defence has allowed 92 points across their last three losses.
Two straight road losses and people are writing off the Chiefs. Mahomes threw for 321 and three TDs in Denver, so the offence isn't the problem. Kansas City is 3rd in the league at 6.3 yards per play and tied for 1st against the run at 3.5 a carry. Breece Hall comes back after missing five games and runs into the best run defence in football. Good luck with that.
The Jets just gave up 38 at home to the Raiders. Now they're on the road with no Garrett Wilson (concussion), their leading receiver at 43 catches and 527 yards. Geno has been fine, with 12 TDs and three picks. Without Wilson, though, who's he throwing to when the Chiefs are up 14 and Karlaftis is in his face? And the history isn't on New York's side: the Jets have lost 11 straight as dogs of 7 or more, and Kansas City is 4-1 in the last five meetings.
Mahomes coming off a loss, at home, in a get-right game. 31-17 is written all over this one.
