THE PLAY: Total Under 6.5 (-130)
Calgary 6, Seattle 2. That was Friday, and that's the score everyone betting the Over tonight is looking at. I get it. With that said, I'm going the other way. I like the Under 6 goals in Flames at Kraken. If your book only has 5.5 or 6.5, play Under 6.5 rather than lay big juice on 5.5.
The bottom line here is Calgary can't score on the road and Seattle doesn't shoot the puck. The Flames want this one slow and heavy, and the Kraken don't put enough rubber on net to turn it into a track meet.
Start with Calgary, because this is not an offence. 38 goals on the season, 26th in the league. Last year they scored 2.24 goals a game on the road. That's right, 2.24. Their road offence has been so quiet the goal horn in visiting barns gets the night off. Where they win is close to the vest: 3-0 in one-goal games, 2.6 goals allowed per game over their last 10, and a 2-1 win over San Jose on Monday with Wolf stopping 26 of 27. Their games have stayed Under in 12 of their last 20, and only 7 of their last 20 road games went Over. As a road dog against a team they just beat, they play to the under and let Wolf do the work.
Seattle is 27th in shots per game. Hard to light the lamp when you're not shooting. They're also thin up front and on the back end, with McCann, Lindgren, O'Brien and Melanson all on IR, and McCann's gone until January.
Here's what keeps this a lean. Seattle has gone Over in 10 of its last 12, and the Over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings. Calgary's power play is clicking at about 30% and Seattle's PK sits around 64%, which is ugly. If this turns into a parade to the box, all bets are off. If they keep it 5-on-5, we're in good shape.
I see a 3-2 game, 3-1 Flames maybe. A 4-2 final pushes at 6, which is exactly why I'd rather have 6.5 if you can find it. Not a max play. Small lean, priced right.
