THE PLAY: Pittsburgh Penguins -112

1-6-1 in their last eight. They just limped home from an 0-4 road trip, and the last stop was a 5-4 loss in Utah on Monday. That's the team I'm laying -115 with tonight, and I'm fine with it.

The bottom line is this is a schedule play. Pittsburgh has been off since Monday. Florida got hammered 5-1 in Ottawa last night and now turns around with a goalie who has never started an NHL game. The Pens aren't good, but they're rested and at home. Florida is tired, banged up and starting a rookie.

Start with that goalie. Markstrom is out 10 to 14 days, so Cooper Black is expected to make his NHL debut. Paul Maurice says "now is the time for him to get one of these games." Maybe. The second night of a back-to-back, on the road, is a hell of a place to start a career. He won't have the full Florida lineup in front of him either: Barkov is out 6-8 weeks and Marchand is on IR until around Nov. 21. Florida has been ordinary on the road for a while too, with 6 wins in their last 23 road games while giving up 3.91 goals a night.

Let's be honest here, Pittsburgh has been bad. Rust is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, and Kindel is out after a medical episode on the team flight. With that said, Karlsson has six points during a four-game point streak, and the Pens have won 10 of their last 18 at home.

Now the number. Florida was out there as a small road favourite at -105. That's flipped, and Pittsburgh is -114/-115 now. Some of the value is gone, but not all of it. Since 2024-25, home teams facing a road team on a back-to-back have won 62% of the time over 440 games. -115 implies about 53%.

I see a 4-2 Pens game, with an empty-netter maybe making it look cleaner than it was. This is not a max play. Pittsburgh's goaltending is shaky and this one could easily go to OT, but the spot is too good to pass on.
