East Carolina @ North Carolina State

Re-match of post-season Military Bowl played 8 months ago won by East Carolina 26-21. 86 yard touchdown run with just 1:33 left in the game certainly points toward North Carolina State revenge angle in this one. Large piece of Wolfpack loss as -7 point favorites was inability to cash in on pair of 1st quarter drives. NCS gained 122 total yards and reached East Carolina 25 & 16 before turnover on downs and missed 33 yard field goal attempt left them dry. Next 4 possessions resulted in 21 points & 239 more yards. In all the teams combined for 901 yards which usually correlates to far more than the 45 points they scored. Pirates had 5 drives of 74+ yards and another that netted 51. They had 10 possessions 9 of which began inside their own 30 yard line (8 between the 1 & 25) and they crossed into NC State territory on 7 of those. Offenses were the top units on the field and they’ve gotten even better personnel wise heading into this season. Overall speed of East Carolina receiving corps is next level and running back room has been referred to as the best since NFL star Chris Johnson was there nearly 20 years ago. OC John David Baker (ex-Mississippi co-OC) brought his “extreme tempo” philosophy to Greenville last season and the team finished as the 4th fastest offense in the nation. Then interim and now permanent HC Blake Harrell allowed Baker the keys to the engine and QB Katin Houser took to it immediately. The defensive side has been ravaged losing all 4 starting DB’s from 2024 and 9 of their top 12 tacklers. Figure the Wolfpack offense to take advantage behind dual threat QB C.J. Bailey and a veteran OL that returns a combined 108 starts which is the 23rd highest total in the country. They too lost their entire starting secondary and breaking in 4 new starters vs. this particular offense could be problematic. Likely replay of high octane offensive success here with the scoreboard accelerating this time to a final landing in the 62+ neighborhood

Consultant Bio

Rob Veno has been entrenched in the sports handicapping community for 31 years. He was a major component in the success of Sportsmemo from its inception as a daily radio show in 1998. His 5% Bluechip releases have become synonymous with success, and he's carved a place for himself among the nation's elite handicappers. Rob's fundamental analysis of football, basketball, and baseball on the college and pro levels has him regarded as one of the best in the business at breaking down games. Rob began to make an imprint on the Las Vegas scene in the mid-1990s with his weekly football and basketball newsletter, which contained game selections and analysis. Over 30 sportsbooks on and off the strip, plus the famous Las Vegas Gambler's Book Club and newsstands nationwide, carried the publication, which expanded his recognition. He was subsequently invited into Las Vegas' most prestigious handicapping contests of that time, the Stardust Invitational in 1996 and 2004 and the Sunset Station Invitational in 2000. A veteran of sports handicapping radio, Rob began in 1992 by co-hosting a weekly Friday night show at 840 AM KVEG. He went on to do numerous live shows as a guest analyst from casino sportsbooks across the Las Vegas Valley, working with a litany of respected hosts and the most recognized handicappers in the business. Rob finally settled in as one of the mainstays on the daily Vegas Sportswire betting show, which ultimately became the famed Sportsmemo Radio Show and subsequent Podcast. His expertise has been heard on radio stations across the country over the years as he has done a multitude of guest analyst segments. Rob joined WagerTalk in the summer of 2020 and has quickly become a prominent member of their world-class handicapping roster. Rob is a Connecticut native, and after spending 11 years in Las Vegas from 1991-2002, he now resides outside of Philadelphia with his wife.
