Switzerland vs Spain Analysis

Both Spain and Switzerland will look to get their respective Nations League campaigns in order here on Thursday with both teams currently sitting bottom of the group after two games.

After a cagey matchup against Iberian rivals Portugal in the opening game, Spain were then forced to come from behind twice in their most recent game against the Czech Republic just to salvage a draw in that one.

For Switzerland it’s been an even worse start, with the Swiss losing 6-1 on aggregate over their opening two matchups and they’ll look for a far greater level of defensive intensity here against arguably the strongest attacking team in the group.

The two sides have generally played tight historically, with the last time more than one goal separated either team in a competitive head-to-head was all the way back in the 1994 World Cup.

Spain’s Unbalanced Focus On Attack

Luis Enrique was part of the team that last beat this Switzerland team by more than one goal back in 1994, but his top heavy emphasis on attack, while overpowering smaller opponents, has presented opportunities to others.

On a positive note, Spain have now scored in sixteen straight international games with their offense continuing to click, averaging 2.67 goals per game over their last three starts.

However in defense they’ve been far from impressive, conceding in every single road game of this competition so far, and this is the third time around for this tournament which first started back in 2018, so that’s a stat that most certainly isn’t welcome from a Spanish viewpoint.

Switzerland Needs to Focus Early

Switzerland, despite being a solid team overall, have found themselves being blown out of the water early against opponents over this Nations League campaign so far, with both Portugal and Czech Republic punishing them over the opening 15 minutes of play in their respective matches.

That’s something that’s very liable to happen here once again as Spain opened the scoring in just the 8th minute against Switzerland back in last summer’s Euro’s through an own goal by Denis Zakaria.

So the Swiss will need to be switched on early here and not give up any unforced errors which could cost them early on.

Switzerland vs Spain Prediction

We have to believe both teams will find a way to find the back of the net in this one on Thursday night and we’re taking the Both Teams to Score – Yes prop as a result.

As we mentioned previously, Spain have been absolutely abysmal in defense on the road over this competition since it started, never keeping a clean sheet away from home in its history, so with players like Breel Embolo who bagged nine goals in the Bundesliga this season, the Swiss have the personnel to trouble the Spanish in this one.

By the same token, Switzerland have given up six goals over this tournament already and arguably haven’t even faced the best attacking team yet, so a Spain blank scoring effort here on Thursday would be a major shock and we like them to get on the scoresheet at least once in this one.

Take the Both Teams to Score – Yes prop at around -120 in the Nations League matchup between Spain and Switzerland on Thursday.

Prediction: Both Teams to Score -120
