Czech Republic vs Switzerland Analysis

Outside of friendlies, the Czech Republic’s last meaningful game came with an extra-time loss against Sweden back in March to dump them out of this year’s World Cup later in the year.

Switzerland meanwhile, qualified automatically for the World Cup, topping Group C ahead of Italy, but have drawn and lost their last two friendlies to open up 2022 so far.

The Czech Republic has beaten Switzerland in all three of their previous meetings, but that last one came almost 14 years ago so a lot has changed between both sides since then.

Switzerland Eager For Quick Start

With qualification already assured to this year’s World Cup later in the year, Switzerland will no doubt be heading into this year’s edition of the Nations League in high spirits.

A quick start is essential however as perennial heavyweights Spain and Portugal make up the other two teams in this group and Switzerland will be eager to capitalize as favorites here on Thursday against the Czech Republic before they have to turn around and face Portugal on the road on Sunday.

Czech Republic Outsiders At Home

While the rebuilding process continues for the Czech Republic under head coach Jaroslav Silhavy, this tournament presents a perfect opportunity to test new systems as the Czechs are not only out of this year’s World Cup, but also rank as fairly sizable outsiders for this Nations League group also.

However, the Czechs aren’t a team to be underestimated, especially on home soil, where they’ve gone unbeaten over their last nine games in their home country and haven’t lost in almost two years there.

Czech Republic vs Switzerland Prediction

We expect this to be a lower scoring game on Thursday and for Switzerland to eke out a narrow win, so we’re taking the Switzerland to win and under 2.5 goals combination prop on Thursday at a healthy +375.

Both Switzerland and the Czech Republic ranked 5th and 6th respectively in last summer’s Euro’s in clean sheet percentage (allowing no goals) with the Czech Republic holding the Netherlands to just 0.84 xG and the Swiss holding Italy to just 1.42 xG as both backlines displayed an above average defense throughout the tournament.

However, the Swiss have shown a proficiency in front of goal also of late, scoring an average of 2.75 goals per game over their last four World Cup qualifier matches, and we like them to extend that here with a narrow win against the Czech Republic on Thursday.

Take Switzerland & Under 2.5 goals at +375 as your play for Thursday.
