Wizards vs Nets Analysis

We have an Eastern Conference tilt between two teams heading in the wrong direction, as the Brooklyn Nets face the Wizards on Thursday night.

The Nets got torched 126-91 at home on Tuesday night against the Boston Celtics. Meanwhile the the Wizards are coming off a 121-100 home beat down at the hands of the Miami Heat.

Brooklyn has won both head-to-head matchups, 104-90 at home in early October and 119-118 in Washington on January 19th.

Embarrassed Nets Look To Stop Slide

The Brooklyn Nets suffered their 9th straight loss as they were crushed by the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night. At one point early in the 1st quarter the Celtics led 28-2 and never looked back.

The Nets have dropped from 1st to 8th in the Eastern Conference standings and are now 1.5 games behind the Toronto Raptors for the final guaranteed playoff spot.

James Harden missed his third straight game, while Kyrie Irving is still ineligible to play in home games due to being unvaccinated. Harden will remain out on Thursday night along with LaMarcus Aldridge, while Nic Claxton is questionable with a hamstring injury.

The Nets were huge favorites to win the NBA Championship, but have now lost 10 of 12 games since Kevin Durant went down with injury and sit at 29-25 on the season.

The Nets are 12th in the league in scoring with 112.9 points a game and 21st in defensive scoring with 111.1 points allowed to their rivals.

No Beal No Dice For Wizards

The Washington Wizards are coming off a humiliating loss at the hands of the Miami Heat on Tuesday night, dropping their record to 24-29 on the season.

They have now lost three of four games since Bradley Beal went out with a wrist injury. Recent reports state that Beal will undergo season ending wrist surgery in what seems to be a lost season.

Washington has lost 9 of their last 11 games, ironically both wins were against the Philadelphia 76ers. On top of missing Beal, the Wiz will also be without their starting center Daniel Gafford, who is on the leagues health and safety protocol list.

On the season, the Wiz rank 22nd in scoring with only 106.8 points per game and 17th in scoring defense as they allow 109.9 points a game to their opponents.

Wizards vs Nets Prediction

The Washington Wizards enter this contest as three point favorites with a total set at 216.5. These are two teams to fade under normal circumstances, but someone has to break their current losing streak in this epic showdown.

Brooklyn is 3-6 against the spread in their last nine games while Washington in 2-14 against the spread in their last 16.

We will know James Harden’s future status as the trade deadline is at 3pm on Thursday, however he will be out for this contest regardless.

But I still lean towards Kyrie Irving and the Nets supporting cast over Kyle Kuzma and the Wiz. Give me the Nets on the +120 money line to snap their nine game losing streak.

Prediction: Brooklyn Nets Money Line +120

Wizards vs Nets Preview from GoldSheet

Shades of Willie Somerset and Walt Simon! Forgive us for recalling the 1968-69 Nets, they of the 17-61 record while bouncing around various home courts on Long Island after their inaugural ABA campaign their previous year across the Hudson River as the New Jersey Americans in the cozy Teaneck Armory, but we can’t help the comparisons to the modern-day Nets who have now lost nine In a row in their longest skid since losing 16 straight in Jan-Feb of 2017.

Of course, injury issues have had a lot (no, make that everything) to do with the current nosedive. And indeed this matchup in D.C. would look better if the absent lists for each team were facing off, with Kevin Durant, James Harden, Lamarcus Aldridge, Joe Harris, and Bradley Beal among those featured.

Instead, that’s all hypothetical as none are going to be available, and by tip-off time we’ll see if Harden is even still a member of the Nets as his name continues to whirr in the trade deadline rumor mill.

Front liner Nic Claxton is also iffy for Brooklyn with hamstring issues, though at least Kyrie Irving will be available as this game is outside of New York, where everyone is keeping an eye on the vax mandates, which might be the next step after Gov. Kathy Hochul pulled back the mask mandates.

Stay tuned. The dilemma here is that the Wiz have hardly been any better lately and absorbed yet another blow to the solar plexus when Bradley Beal opted for wrist surgery earlier this week, sidelining him for the rest of the season.

In fact, the only difference between these matching 1-8 spread skids across their last nine games is that Washington actually has a straight up win in that stretch (last Wednesday vs. Philly).

To avoid making a Hobson’s Choice with the sides there looks to be something of a compelling “under” argument considering Washington that way in six of its last eight and failing to even clear 100 points in four of its last five.

So, if we have to do recommend anything with this low-speed collision, that it will be!
