Suns vs Clippers Analysis
The Phoenix Suns will open as massive favorites when they host the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night. The Suns are on a five-game winning streak, this will be the third game of a four game homestand.
Meanwhile the Clippers have won two in a row and have been alternating home and road games. The Clippers won the first head-to-head meeting at home 111-95, neither Devin Booker or DeAndre Ayton played for the Suns. The Suns bounced back in the second game with a 106-89 victory at home.

The Phoenix Suns are 13.5 point favorites in this game with a total of 223.5. The Clippers team total is set at 104.5, while the Suns are 118.5. Phoenix ranks 3rd in scoring with 113.7 points a game, while Los Angeles rank 24th with only 106.4 points. On defense the Clippers rank 12th with 107.7 points allowed to their opponents, while the Suns rank 7th with 105.4.
The Phoenix offense has been on fire with 115 points or more in 6 of their last 8 games, with 114 in one of the games they fell short. In turn their opponents have scored over the Clippers team total of 104.5 in 8 of the last 9 games. The Clippers have cleared 104.5 in 6 of their last 8, while landing on 104 in one of the other two. I’m expecting less defense as the All-Star Game approaches as the Suns to rely on their offense to beat the Clippers.

There are a couple different directions you could look for player props in this one. The Clips struggle with both centers and guards, while Marcus Morris Sr has had a few big games against the Suns. The Clippers don’t have much for size and allow the 8th most rebounds (16.10) to opposing centers. DeAndre missed both games against the Clippers this season, but played them a total of 9 times last season, including playoffs. His rebound prop is set at 8.5 with -140 juice for this game. In the nine games last season, Ayton cleared 8.5 rebounds 8 times with 8 in the game he fell short. I’m thinking it’s worth the -140 to back Ayton over rebounds, I would even recommend 9.5 with a better price.

As usual we use our player prop, but we will lower Ayton’s rebounds to 6.5. If Ayton grabs these rebounds, he should get some easy put back opportunities. We will add his points over 13.5, a number he has cleared in 3 of his last 5 games with 10 and 13 in the other two games. Ayton also surpassed 13.5 points in 7 of 9 games against the Clippers last season. Marcus Morris scored 26 & 24 against the Suns this season and has scored 20 or more in 4 of his last 6 games. We will ask for 14 here at over 13.5. Combine the three for a sweet +175 price.

Los Angeles likely still giddy about dominating the third quarter at home last night against the powerful Warriors and logging a 119-104 upset as a 6.5-point dog. That victory follows a similar upset at Dallas on Saturday.
These two split two this season with the home team winning and covering each, and the Clips have lost four of their last five trips to the Footprint Center over the last two seasons. LA playing higher scoring games, (“over” is 6-1 in last seven overall) as the Clipper defense ranks just 27th in the league in that segment.
Meanwhile, Phoenix leads the league in net efficiency rating and ranks second in offense this season, and Los Angeles is only 3-6 against the number playing the second night of back-to-back games this season. Offsetting that could be that the Suns are just 1-4 in their last five chances laying more than nine points at home this season. The Clippers are playing well, shooting 52% over their last three games, as Terance Mann and Reggie Jackson have stepped up big time in the past two games that recently-acquired Norman Powell missed.
