Jazz vs Trail Blazers Analysis

The surging Utah Jazz host the lowly Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night. After losing Damian Lillard to injury and trading CJ McCollum, the Trail Blazers have plummeted in the standings and are in the basement of the Western Conference. On the other hand, the Jazz are looking to win their eighth-straight home game.

The Jazz has won both of the previous matchups between these teams this season and they covered the spread on both occasions.

Singing the Right Notes

Over their last ten games, the Utah Jazz are 7-3 and are holding opponents to 107.9 points per game over the stretch. The Jazz currently sit comfortably as the fourth seed in the Western Conference, but the Mavericks are hot on their tail. In order to maintain their spot in the conference standings and maybe make a run toward the No. 3 seed, this is a must-win game for the Jazz.

Waving the White Flag

The Blazers have had a myriad of injuries to key rotational players as well as their superstar Damian Lillard. At this point, it is abundantly clear the season is lost the Blazers need to retool for next season.

The Blazers are 1-11 in Northwest divisional games this season. As a road dog of 9.5 or more points, the Blazers are 3-4 against the spread this season. Besides for Anfernee Simons, it’s hard to get excited about anything Portland is doing on the court.

Jazz vs Trail Blazers Prediction

A point spread of 17 is quite high for an NBA game. While I do not doubt that the Jazz are currently 17 points better than Portland, I still have a hard time laying that number. Where I see value is in the team total. I like Portland under 100.5 points tonight.

The only way the Blazers reach the century mark is if Simons carries the offense by himself (which, I suppose, is possible). However, if the Jazz are the slightest bit locked in and focused, I do not see the Blazers generating enough offense to compete in this game and the Jazz should come away with an easy victory.
