Hornets vs Celtics Analysis
The Boston Celtics head to the Spectrum Center in Charlotte for the fourth and final Eastern Conference tilt with the Hornets. The Hornets fell to 32-33 after being outscored by the Brooklyn Nets last night. The Celtics’ record sits at 39-27 after beating the same Nets team on Sunday afternoon.
Boston has won two of three head-to-head matchups, a 140-129 overtime victory on the road back in October and 113-107 win at home in early February. The Hornets win came in Boston 111-102 in January.
Hornets Can’t Outscore Everyone
The Hornets got beat at their own game last night as the Nets won a high scoring affair 132-121 in Charlotte. Terry Rozier and Miles Bridges both scored 30 points in the loss. It didn’t matter as Kyrie Irving dropped 50 points on their heads in a game Brooklyn controlled from beginning to end.
The Hornets have dropped 11 of their last 15 games and need to right the ship or miss the post-season altogether.
They do come into this game with a clean injury report outside of being without third stringer James Bouknight. However they are playing the second game of a back-to-back and this is the NBA.
The Hornets have no trouble scoring at 114.5 they are just a fraction of a point behind the Milwaukee Bucks for highest scoring team in the league. Defense is where they have issues, they rank 28th allowing over 114 points a game to their opponents.
Celtics Climbing Power Rankings
The Boston Celtics have turned a mediocre season into a potential deep playoff run as they have now won 15 of their last 18 games. The latest victory came in the form of a 126-120 victory at home over the Brooklyn Nets. Jayson Tatum put up an amazing 54 point effort, while Jaylen Brown added 21 points in the victory.
Tatum has now scored 30 points or more in three straight games while averaging 26.5 points and 8.2 rebounds a game on the season. The Celtics rely on defense, ranking 3rd with only 104 points allowed to their rivals. They rank 17th with 109.6 points scored per game. Aaron Nesmith is out for this contest and is the only player listed on the Celtic injury report.
Hornets vs Celtics Prediction
Despite playing on the road, the Boston Celtics are favored by 7.5 points with a 225 over/under. The Celtics have been one of the better road teams in the league recently, winning 5 of their last 6 away from home.
We could see an inspired performance by Terry Rozier as he plays against his former team. However Charlotte is one of the worst teams in the league on back-to-backs with a 3-9 record against the spread.
The Hornets did a great job competing against Boston earlier in the season, but this a completely different Celtics team. Recently the Celts have made quick work of offensive teams like the Hornets. They Celtics defense will be the difference in this one.
