Dallas Mavericks vs Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Preview
WagerTalk handicapper and renowned Daily Fantasy expert Ben Burns provides his predictions and a player prop from tonight’s showdown between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Dallas Mavericks.
These teams split this season’s first two meetings; both games were played at Minnesota. Tonight, Dallas fans will get their first look at Kyrie Irving. The Mavericks have won two of three games since Irving’s arrival but all of those were on the road.
This will mark the second game that Doncic and Irving played together. The Mavericks are 0-1 with the two superstars both in the lineup. So, you know they’re going to want this one. The Mavs have beaten Minnesota five straight times, when playing here at home.
Kyrie had this to say: “I’m excited to bring my game to Dallas and excite those fans. I don’t think they’ve ever seen anybody like me before.”

Dallas Mavericks vs Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Analysis
While the Mavericks are now considered title contenders, most figure the Twolves will be fortunate to make the playoffs. Yet, the reality is that there’s currently not much separating them. Minnesota (30-29) is second in the Northwest. Dallas (31-27) is second in the Southwest.
Neither team has been very good at the betting window. The Wolves are 27-29-2 ATS. Dallas is a poor 22-33-3 ATS. Both teams are far stronger on their home floor.
While the overall ATS numbers still aren’t there, both teams have been heading in the right direction Prior to the Kings’ spoiling the Doncic/Irving debut, the Mavericks had covered the spread in five straight. Minnesota is 8-5-1 ATS over the past few weeks.
Prepare For Some Offensive Fireworks
With an O/U line in the 230s, this game is expected to be relatively high-scoring. In reality, the O/U line might not be set high enough.
Dallas gave up 133 points last game, although only 114 of those were in regulation. Minnesota, however, has allowed a whopping 131 ppg, over its past three outings. All three of those games finished above the total.
When playing with two days’ rest in between games, Minnesota games have averaged greater than 235 points, the ‘over’ cashing at an 83% clip.
In Other News
While the Kyrie Irving trade stole the spotlight, the T-Wolves acquired a bigtime point guard of their own. Mike Conley is an entirely different type of player than Irving.
He isn’t flashy and he doesn’t put up big offensive numbers. He’s an excellent defender though and he makes everyone around him better. Minnesota’s hope is that Conley brings out the best in Rudy Gobert.
Remember, Conley and Gobert previously played together in Utah. Minnesota coach Chris Finch commented: “We feel there’s more meat on the bone in being able to help maximize Rudy offensively. We’ve been getting better at it. You’ve seen it, but it’s still not been seamless. Mike’s experience of playing alongside of him is going to really help.”
Dallas Mavericks vs Minnesota Timberwolves Player Prop Prediction
As I mentioned, Conley isn’t flashy. He does a little bit of everything though. He didn’t make much of an impact in his Minneota debut. So, he’ll be motivated for a better performance.
In what is expected to be a fairly high-scoring game, Conley should put up decent stats. He did score nine points in his first Minnesota game and should get at least that many.
On the season. he averages 10.7 ppg and 2.5 rebounds. In three games against Dallas this season, he’s averaging 10 assists.
All eyes will be on Irving but I look for Conley to quietly do his thing. Let’s pencil him for a 13/9/3 stat-line.
