New Orleans Pelicans vs Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Analysis

The Cleveland Cavaliers travel to New Orleans for an interconference clash with the Pelicans on Friday night from the Smoothie King Center.

The Pelicans will be looking for a 4th straight victory after beating the Atlanta Hawks 116-107 at home on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers Push for their 5th straight win after crushing the Detroit Pistons 113-85 at home on Wednesday.

This will be the second and final game in a regular season series that the Cavaliers lead 1-0 after beating New Orleans 113-103 in Cleveland on January 16th. Tip-off is slated 10:00 PM EST/7:00 PST as the nightcap of an ESPN Friday night doubleheader.

Cavalier Attitude

The Cleveland Cavaliers upped their record to an impeccable 35-22 on the season after running roughshod over the Pistons by 28 points.

They absolutely dominated the interior with a 50-32 rebounding edge while outscoring Detroit 70-32 in the paint. Jarrett Allen led all scorers and rebounders with 20 points and 16 boards.

Evan Mobley added 19 points and 8 rebounds while Caris LeVert chipped in with 15 points. Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland both rested in the runaway victory.

Cleveland currently sits at 4th place in the Eastern Conference, five games behind the first place Celtics and one game ahead of the 5th placed Nets. Scoring isn’t the Cavaliers strength as they rank 25th in scoring with 111.8 points on 48.7% from the field.

Defense is their calling card as they are the #1 ranked team in defensive rating and defensive scoring with only 106.2 points allowed per game. Cleveland currently sports a clean injury report, a breath of fresh air nowadays.

Pelicans Win Three Straight After Ten Game Losing Streak

The New Orleans Pelicans moved to two games above .500 at 29-27 after beating Atlanta on Tuesday. The Pelicans had a big shooting advantage at 45-91 49.5% from the field while the Hawks went only 38-85 for 44.7%.

Brandon Ingram led all scorers with 30 points while shooting 11-18 from the floor and 8-9 from the charity stripe. Jonas Valanciunas recorded a 16 point, 14 rebound double-double while CJ McCollum scored 21 points along with 7 assists and 6 rebounds.

New Orleans currently occupies the 7th seed in the Western Conference, 9 games behind the first place Nuggets and only 1.5 games away from missing the play-in tournament altogether.

They rank above average offensively at 11th in scoring with 115.5 points a game on 48% from the field. The Pels rank 11th in defensive rating and 15th in defensive scoring with 113.5 points allowed per game. Dyson Daniels has been ruled out for this contest while Josh Richardson is questionable.

New Orleans Pelicans vs Cleveland Cavaliers Expert Prediction

The Cleveland Cavaliers enter this contest as 3 point road favorites with a total set at 223. Both these teams basically stood pat at the deadline.

I’m fully expecting Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland to return tonight. The Cavs defense is going to smother the Pelicans as they rank #1 in both defense rating and defensive scoring.

Cleveland has also been extremely efficient offensively as they have the 6th highest team shooting percentage and 9th highest adjusted offensive rating.

Without Zion Williamson, New Orleans is going to struggle with the bigs from the Cavs. The Cavaliers aren’t the greatest on the road ATS but this is a small number that they should cover at full strength.
