Cleveland Cavaliers vs Dallas Mavericks Analysis
The Dallas Mavericks take their annual trip to Cleveland for an interconference matchup with the Cavaliers. The Cleveland Cavaliers improved to 42-33 after snapping a three game losing streak with a 107-101 victory at home over the Orlando Magic. The Dallas Mavericks won their last game in blowout fashion 128-110 at home over the Los Angeles Lakers, moving their record up to 47-29 on the season.
The Cavs beat the Mavs 114-96 in their first meeting in Dallas back in late November. Two teams heading into the post-season with similar records, sounds like a perfect game to break down from a sides and totals perspective.
Cavs Look To Avoid Play-In Tournament
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been a top-six team in the Eastern Conference for most of the regular season. With the playoffs looming they have now slipped a game behind the Toronto Raptors for the all important six-seed in the Eastern Conference. If they can’t regain that position they will face the uncertainty of the play-in tournament up against dangerous teams like the Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks.
The downward spiral started right before All Star Center Jarrett Allen went down with a finger injury. They have lost six of 11 games without Allen and 12 of their last 20 games overall. In their latest loss to Orlando, Darius Garland led the team in points with 25 and assists with 12.
Now the Cavs will face to the Mavs without Rookie of the Year front-runner Evan Mobley as well as Rajon Rondo and Dean Wade. The Cavs have relied on defense this season, ranking top three on the season in scoring defense. However they have dropped down to being ranked 13th in scoring defense over the last ten days.
Mavericks Run LeBron-less Lakers Off the Court
The Dallas Mavericks received the gift of playing the Los Angeles Lakers without LeBron James on Tuesday night. They took full advantage and scored 82 points in the first half en route to an easy 128-110 victory. Luka Doncic led his team in all three statistical categories with a 34 point, 12 rebound and 12 assist triple double.
The Mavericks have now won two in a row and seven of their last 10 games. They now sit only a game behind the Golden State Warriors for the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. The Mavericks are fully healthy with nothing of note on their injury report.
Like Cleveland the Mavericks are defensive minded team. However the Mavs have remained a consistent top-three defense on the season and of late.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs Dallas Mavericks Prediction
The Dallas Mavericks are a 3- point road favorite in Cleveland with a total set at 213 points. The Cavs and Mavs are two teams that with great defense that also play at a slow pace. Dallas plays at the slowest pace in the league while Cleveland is bottom five. Both teams are also below average in scoring.
The Cavs’ defense has taken a step back, but they still have the ability to keep an offense like Dallas in check. This game just screams low scoring and I fully expect one side to score less than 100 points. That should leave room for an under 213, a number that will surely dip lower as the day progresses.
