Dallas Mavericks vs LA Lakers Analysis
The Mavericks host the Lakers tonight, and they will be a monster 12-point favorite as LeBron James and Anthony Davis will most likely be out tonight. The Lakers are slipping out of the play-in tournament while the Mavs are trying to hold on to the No. 4 seed. We expect to have two motivated teams, but Dallas will clearly have the better starters.
No LeBron, No Chance?
The Lakers aren’t good with LeBron in the lineup, so it’s going to be a tough game tonight without him. The Spurs are within a half-game of them for the play in tourney, so I’m expecting a big effort from Westbrook and company, but it’s hard to see them pulling off the upset.
I won’t take any against-the-spread trends into account for LA tonight as the LeBron factor is tough to gauge, but Lakers games have been “over” machines recently going 4-1 over their last five, and 7-3 their last ten, and with this roster tonight it’s hard to see much lockdown defense coming from LA.
Favorable Schedule for Dallas
Dallas is wanting to hold on to the No. 4 seed to lock in the home court in the first round, and they have a great schedule to close strong starting with the LeBron-less Lakers followed by the Cavs, Wizards, Bucks, Pistons, Blazers and Spurs.
The win on Sunday over Utah was big for them, and tonight will be interesting to see what they do. If they get up, we will see starters sit for sure as they play a back to back on the road tomorrow.
Defense is their key to winning games, and in their last eight wins they’ve held opponents to 108 or lower in seven of them. Also, in their last five home games their games have gone under.
Dallas Mavericks vs LA Lakers Prediction
Taking the under here as LA is going to struggle to score against this Dallas defense, and with the Mavericks having to go on the road tomorrow night, I see them slowing the pace as much as possible as they have the slowest pace of play in the league.
